Everything Has Its Appropriate Time: Devotion for Wednesday March 25, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday March 25, 2020
Topic: Everything Has Its Appropriate Time
Text: Ecclesiastics 3:1 – 10
Most times, God allow us to pass through many things in life which He uses to teach us what life means. Solomon is one person in the Bible who had everything (wisdom, power, riches, honour, reputation, God’s favour) and he is the one who discussed the ultimate emptiness of all that this world has to offer.
Solomon’s point in this text is that God has a plan for all people. Thus, He provides cycles of life, each with its work for us to do. According to Life Application Notes, “Timing is important. All the experiences listed in these verses are appropriate at certain times. The secret to peace with God is to discover, accept, and appreciate God’s perfect timing. The danger is to doubt or resent God’s timing. This can lead to despair, rebellion, or moving ahead without his advice.”
Although we may face many problems that seem to contradict God’s plan, these should not be barriers to believing in Him, but rather opportunities to discover that, without God, life’s problems have no lasting solutions.
Do you think you are running out of time in respect of marriage, child birth, university education, securing a job, etc.? Time is never against you. At God’s own time (appropriate time), He will remember you. Don’t ever give up.
Food for Thought:God shall judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work” – Ecclesiastes 3:17
Memory verse: Ecclesiastics 3:1
Prayer: Almighty God, your time for me is perfect. Help me never to doubt or resent your timing for me.

Time Heals Wound

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Sunday June 11, 2017
Topic: Time Heals Wound
Text: Genesis 33:4 - But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
Sin is not good, whether it is supplanting, lie, cheating, stealing with gun or pen, killing, bribery, etc. Apart from eternal consequence of going to hell fire, it makes one uneasy and to run when no one pursues. The person loses peace and for every little thing, his heart condemns him.
With the aid of his mother, Jacob cheated his brother Esau and ran away (Genesis 27: 6 -29). The result of this action of Jacob is in Genesis 27:41 because he falsely took away his brother’s blessings. Hatred and murder are intimately connected. If you indulge in one, it leads to the other. Actually Esau’s aim was to prevent Jacob or his seed from having the dominion, by taking away his life. It is very possible for men to fret at God's counsels, but they can never change them.
In order to prevent mischief or killing of Jacob, Rebecca warned him of the impending danger. She counselled Jacob to flee for his safety and life (Genesis 27:42). “Time heals wound” is a popular saying. When Jacob was returning, his sin started hunting him which made him devise means to appease Esau. However, Esau had overcome his bitterness and welcomed Jacob with open arms.
We must overcome bitterness. Paul admonished us to be at peace with all people (Romans 12:18; Hebrews 12:14). Indeed, you might have been offended, abused, mocked and ridiculed without cause. As children of God, we have it as a duty to avoid bitterness which leads to other sins. Be the light – Romans 14:19 and Hebrews 12: 14.
Food for Thought: Mark 9:50
Memory verse: Genesis 33 verse 4 - But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
Prayer: God, uproot every form of bitterness, hatred and unforgiving spirit in my heart.

Time To Seek The Lord

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Monday April 24, 2017
Topic: Time To Seek The Lord
Text: Hosea 10:9 – 15
This month of April is said to have derived its name from the Latin verb aperio, which signifies to open, because it is the season the buds and blossoms begin to open. This is the reason Hosea used agricultural language to give his prophesy in such a season. It is my prayer that every bud of peace, progress, promotion, etc, will begin to open for you in Jesus name.
In asking God to open our buds in a bid that they will blossom, we should sincerely seek Him from our hearts by breaking up our fallowed ground and by sowing righteousness. This is what Hosea is telling us as here. He repeatedly uses illustrations about fields and crops and here he envisions a ploughed field. It is no longer stony and hard; it has been carefully prepared, and it is ready for planting. This is what the Israelis should make their life to become if they hope to escape the impending judgement of God upon them. No one should hope for a more permanent and total reformation which cannot start with thorough humiliation of the heart before God. Such heart should be prepared in meekness to receive the transformation from God.
Is your life ready for God to work in it? You can break up the unploughed ground of your heart by acknowledging your sins and receiving God’s forgiveness and guidance. This is the only way God can come into your life and transform it into a fruitful life that will glorify Him.
Food for Thought: Proverbs 11:18
Memory verse: Hosea 10 verse 12
Prayer: Grant me the spirit of humility, O Lord, to always acknowledge my sins in order to receive your forgiveness and blessings in Jesus name.

Forget Your Misery

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday February 15, 2017
Topic: Forget Your Misery
Text: Job 11:16
You can’t do anything about the past, but you can do something about your future. All you need to do is to forget your misery and look up to God for intervention. Job's misery was extreme, and it seemed as if he could never forget it. He never did forget the fact of it, but he did forget the pain of it. There is nothing better that can happen to our misery than forgetting it in the sense referred to here in our text.
When we are in pain of body or depression of spirit, we imagine that we never shall forget such misery as we are enduring. But when God turns towards us with mercy and we are restored to health or uplifted from depression of spirit, we no longer remember, except as a thing that has passed and gone, to be recollected with gratitude. These words of Zophar in our text were prophetic. It later came to pass when God restored all that Job lost. There is also consolation from the future just as Hebrews 12:11 truly say.
Our text can be fulfilled in our lives by the lapse of time. Time is a wonderful healer. Remember how Job forgot his misery when, in a short time, he had double as much of all that he possessed (Job 42:10). When the Lord turns your captivity, you will be like them that dream. They woke up; their dream is all gone, they have completely forgotten it. So it will be with your misery. It will be gone and gone forever as God will remember you this season.
Food for Thought: Dwelling on the past denies us the opportunity of making progress into the future.
Memory verse: Job 11 verse 16 - You will forget your misery; you will remember it as waters that have passed away.
Prayer: Intervene in my life, O Lord, that I may forget my pain and misery.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT: Devotion for Saturday October 24, 2015

TIME IS RUNNING OUT    Saturday October 24, 2015

Text: Romans 13:11 – 14       Memory verse: v 11

Apostle Paul taught four things here, about the duties of a Christian; when to be awake, how to dress ourselves, how to walk, and what provision to make. He started by saying ‘and do this’. What are we to do? They are in Romans 13:7 – 10. The essence of the admonition is because it is time to wake out of sleep. Sleep here literally means inactivity and insensibility to the doctrines, and duties of religion. Men, by nature, are active in deeds of wickedness but in righteousness are insensible, and the slumbers of night are on their eyes always. That is the nature of man.

Paul thus made the call that we should wake out of the sleep of sin, out of the sleep of carnal security, sloth and negligence, out of the sleep of spiritual death, and out of the sleep of spiritual deadness. We should be concerned about our souls and our eternal interest; take heed of sin, be ready to, and serious in that which is good. This should rightly make us to live in a constant expectation of the coming of our Lord. Are you actually ready for the return of the Lord? Know that time is running out. Do not be taken unawares.

Food for Thought: How active and sensible are you to the duties of religion?

Prayer: Lord God, wake me up from insensibility and inactivity about eternal things. Keep me in constant expectation of coming of Jesus.
