Jesus Christ Has Risen: Devotion for Easter Day April 12, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Easter Day Sunday April 12, 2020
Text: Jesus Christ Has Risen!
Text: Matthew 28:1 – 10
Today, we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We thank God for such a privilege. Mary Magdalene and her colleagues came to the tomb with the mind to anoint the body (Luke 24:1) but the met an empty tomb.
The angel who announced the good news of the Resurrection to the women gave them four messages:
(1) Don’t be afraid. The reality of the resurrection brings joy, not fear. When you are afraid, remember the empty tomb.
(2) He isn’t here. Jesus is no more among the dead and is not to be looked for among the dead. He is alive, with His people.
(3) Come, see. The women could check the evidence themselves. The tomb was empty then, and it is empty today. The resurrection is a historical fact. (4) Go quickly and tell. They were to spread the joy of the Resurrection.
Resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of Christianity and that is why many people especially in my clime will defy stay at home to go and worship. If Christ didn’t rise from death, there wouldn’t have been any gospel today. Our gospel today is simple; Jesus died for our sins and rose again so that if we believe in Him, we will have eternal life.
One of the messages the angel gave was go quickly and tell them. This was also the injunction Jesus gave as He resurrected. How far are you “telling” others about this good news? If we are not doing that, it means that we are ashamed of Him and He will deny us at the end (Mark 8:38).
Food for Thought: If Jesus didn’t resurrect, what would have been our position today?
Memory verse: Matthew 26:32
Prayer: O Lord my God, may I never be ashamed of telling people about you.

Who Will Roll Away The Stone?

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Easter Sunday April 16, 2017
Topic: Who Will Roll Away The Stone?
Text: Mark 16:1 – 8
Yesterday we saw how the Chief priest and Pharisees obtained permission and secured the tomb of Jesus in a bid to stopping Him from resurrecting. Our bible reading confirms that the tomb was indeed secured. These women came to the tomb of Jesus to anoint His dead body as was the custom. On their way they remembered that the tomb had been secured with a big stone which they cannot pull away. God, whose plan overrules that of man had pulled away the stone and the anointing they were planning couldn’t hold because Jesus was not in the tomb again. Sometimes when we meet with opposition as we plan to honour God, we shouldn’t be discouraged because He will certainly remove all obstacles on the way. God removed the stone to teach us that when He purposes, nothing whatsoever can stop His purpose from fulfilling.
Today, we are celebrating the effects of that stone which God rolled away. One of them is the resurrection of Christ. His resurrection brought hope for us that all our problem of sin, sickness, lack, etc have been rolled away and new things are beginning to manifest for us in Jesus name. You may have been wondering who will roll away that your problem. Never mind, the God you serve, in His infinite mercies will roll them away. As the women went back with joy that Jesus had resurrected, so you will from this day sing songs of joy and victory of what God will resurrect in your life, family, business, marriage, etc. Happy Easter!
Food for Thought: What would been our Christian faith, if Christ did not resurrect from the dead?
Memory verse: Mark 16 verse 3
Prayer: Lord God, thank you for resurrecting Jesus Christ from the dead which has brought us hopes of victory over death and certainty of eternal life. Amen.

HE IS RISEN: Devotion for Easter Day Sunday March 27, 2016

HE IS RISEN: Devotion for Easter Day Sunday March 27, 2016

Text: Matthew 28:1 – 10     Memory verse: v 7

Beloved, Happy Easter! Today, we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Severally, He foretold about this day (Matt. 12:40; 17:9, 23) outside the prediction of the prophets. Mary Magdalene and her colleague came to the tomb with the mind to anoint the body (Lk. 24:1) but they met empty tomb.

The angel who announced the good news of the Resurrection to the women gave them four messages: (1) don’t be afraid. The reality of the resurrection brings joy, not fear. When you are afraid, remember the empty tomb. (2) He isn’t here. Jesus is not dead and is not to be looked for among the dead. He is alive, with His people. (3) Come, see. The women could check the evidence themselves. The tomb was empty then, and it is empty today. The resurrection is a historical fact. (4) Go quickly and tell. They were to spread the joy of the Resurrection. We, too, are to spread the great news about Jesus’ resurrection.

Resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of Christianity. If Christ didn’t rise from death, there wouldn’t have been any gospel today. Our gospel is simple; Jesus died for our sins, rose and will come again; so if we believe in Him, we will have eternal life. One of the messages the angel gave was go quickly and tell them. This was also the injunction Jesus gave as He resurrected. How far are you telling others about this Good News? If we are not doing that, it means that we are ashamed of Him and He will deny us at the end (Mk. 8:38).

Food for Thought: If Jesus didn’t resurrect, what would have been our position today?

Prayer: May I never be ashamed of telling people about you, O Lord.

A PATRIOT INDEED: Devotion for Tuesday December 29, 2015

A PATRIOT INDEED      Tuesday December 29, 2015

Text: Esther 10:1 – 6         Memory verse: v 3

Mordecai was truly great, and his greatness gave him opportunities of doing the more good. He did not disown his people the Jews, and no doubt kept to the true religion. He did not seek his own wealth, but the welfare of his people. Few have it in their power to do so much good as Mordecai; but all have it in their power to do hurt, and who has it not in his power to do some good. Mordecai was indeed a patriot who sought for the welfare of his people at all times and as he had the opportunity.

We are not required to do what is not in our power because God doesn’t require us to do so but there are those we should emulate as recorded in the Bible. Matthew Henry Concise Commentary says “If we live by the faith of Christ, we shall be active according to the ability and opportunities He gives us, in promoting His glory and the best interests of men. If our faith be genuine, it will work by love.” How much do you seek for the welfare of fellow Christian and your pastors? Mordecai has proved himself. What about you? You have opportunity to do something today.

Food for Thought: Any challenge for you in the life of Mordecai

Prayer: Lord, give us men and women like Mordecai in our political offices.

JUST FOR YOUR SAKE: Devotion for Wednesday November 4, 2015

JUST FOR OUR SAKE                          Wednesday November 4, 2015

Text: 2 Corinthians 5:16 – 21                     Memory verse: v 21

If we ever hope to know God and appreciate all He does for us, we should retrace our steps backwards to the events at the Cross of Calvary. This is one reason I so much love Easter Period. The readings of that season and all its teachings give me insight into the magnitude of God’s love for us. Paul tells the Corinthians that Jesus was made a sinner simply because He wants to secure for us our righteousness of God. Thus we learn that sin must have a sacrifice (Hebrews 9:22). God made Him to be a sin; that is, a sin-offering, or a sacrifice to atone for our sin. Under the law, the sacrifice was called sin, because the sin of the person was laid upon the sacrifice; there was a sort of a translation of the sin from the sinner to the sacrifice (Leviticus 4:4).

We also learnt that Jesus Christ being made sin for us is the meritorious cause and means of our being made the righteousness of God in Him. We broke God’s righteous law. Christ kept it and fulfilled all righteousness. We sinned against mercy, Christ suffered without mercy. He did this for our sake. Have you accepted Jesus as Lord? This sacrifice must not be in vain.

Food for Thought: Galatians 3:13

Prayer: Help me O Lord to always acknowledge the sacrifice Jesus made for my sake, by becoming sin so that I will be righteous.
