The Best Counsellor

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Thursday May 4, 2017
Topic: The Best Counsellor
Text: Isaiah 28:29
The best counsel and excellent guidance come from God. He has never counselled anyone and His counsel failed or guided anyone and same misses the way. In Genesis 24, we have how Eliezer, the eldest servant of Abraham (Genesis 15:2), prayed for God’s guidance and he got it (Genesis 24:12 – 21). In Judges 20:23, the Israelis asked for God’s counsel and He spoke on what they should do. God is the only one that can tell what will happen in every day of our lives. He is the only one who knows where and how we can succeed. He is the one that is indispensable as far as our existence is concerned. With Him all things are possible.
Oftentimes, we contemplate on how they will fare or succeed in our endeavours. Some spent weeks wondering how they can overcome challenges and obstacles or seeking counsel from men about them. God’s counsel and guidance is what we need at such times. Those who relied on Him in the past where not disappointed and ours will not be different. Those who despised Him paid dearly for it (see 1 Chronicle 10:13). Our wisdom will lead to destruction but leaning on Him will lead to greater success and accomplishment. The Lord will guide you continually as He assured in Isaiah 58:11 and guide your feet unto peace (Luke 1:79). Trust God’s counsel because His counsel is the best for us.
Food for Thought: Psalm 32:8
Memory verse: Isaiah 28 verse 29
Prayer: God, guide me with your counsel in all I do so I will be successful in life.

GET BEHIND ME, SATAN: Devotion for August 14, 2015

GET BEHIND ME, SATAN         Friday August 14, 2015

Text: Matthew 4:8 – 11          Memory verse: v 10

It was after Jesus was declared the Son of God, and the Saviour of the world, that He was tempted. Great privileges, and special tokens of Divine favour, will not secure anyone from being tempted. Satan’s intent in the temptations was to cause Jesus to sin by taking shortcuts to the accomplishment of His kingdom purposes. Since Satan showed his true character, Jesus did not deal with him as a pretended friend and pious counsellor but calls him by his right name and ordered him off.

If we presume upon our own strength, and tempt the devil to tempt us, we provoke God to leave us to ourselves (James 1:14). We should know that devil is never a pious counsellor. Therefore, order him off your ways and life. You should be courageous enough to rebuke Satan now. Don't pamper him because he doesn't think anything good for you. Don’t try to toy with him or else, you will pay dearly for it.

Food for Thought: Do you have the courage to order the devil behind you?

Prayer: Devil, get behind me because my life is for Jesus. Amen.
