Walk in the Spirit: Devotion for Friday January 31, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Friday January 31, 2020
Topic: Walk in the Spirit
Text: Galatians 5:16 – 18
Paul acknowledged the great weakness of the godly, because they are partly regenerated and exhorts them to remember that they are endued with the Spirit of God. He also exhorts them to walk in that Spirit they have been endued with so as not to give room for the flesh.
The more we obey the new nature, and follow the leading of the Spirit of grace, the more the power of indwelling sin and inbred corruption in us will be mortified and kept under check. Obedience to the Spirit enables us to walk in the Spirit because old nature and new nature cannot dwell together. They “are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” – Galatians 5:7b
Walking in the Spirit is one of the best ways we can live the life that is pleasing to God. By pleasing God, we attract His blessings upon our lives. In this case it is best for us to walk in the Spirit. We can do this well by knowing what God wants us to do through the study of His words.
When the word of God is rooted in us, we will no longer be ignorant about what God expects from us.
Are you walking in the flesh or in the Spirit?
Food for Thought: Walking in the Spirit makes us more like Christ
Memory verse: Romans 8:6
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to walk in the Spirit so as to mortify the indwelling sin and corruption of the flesh in Jesus name.

Walk Worthy of Your Call

My Daily Covenant with God Devotional
Devotion for Tuesday Monday January 7, 2018
Topic: Walk Worthy Of Your Call
Text: Colossians 1:9 – 14
The Christian call is fashioned in the likeness of Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Saviour, and that is why our general name is Christian. Paul had constantly prayed that Colossian believers might be filled with the knowledge of God's will, in all wisdom as the will make them walk worthy of their call. This prayer is for us the present day believers. It is only when we walk worthy of our call that we can please God.
Walk as used in this context means act of living, which is the life we should live. By walking worthy of our call, Paul stated that we should live our lives as those who are now followers of Jesus Christ. He went ahead to state how we can do it in verses 10b following. This exhortation is also for us and we can do it in the following ways. 1) Fully pleasing God. 2) Being fruitful in every good work. 3) Increasing in the knowledge of God. 4) Rely on God for strength and patience as we endure suffering with joy. 5) We should always give thanks to God who has qualified us as partakers of His inheritance. As we follow these suggestions of Paul in our text, we will be walking worthy of our call as Christians. Are there other ways you can add to the ones stated above? We should please God with our thoughts; our actions, our reactions, our relationships, our dealing with others and our words. These are what our call demands from us.
Food for Thought: Have you understood what your call is?
Memory verse: Colossians 1:10
Prayer: Grant me the grace that I need O Lord to walk worthy of my call in Jesus name.

Walk In The Spirit

Devotion for Monday March 5, 2018
Topic: Walk In The Spirit
Text: Galatians 5:16 – 18
He acknowledges the great weakness of the godly, because they are but in part regenerated: but he exhorts them to remember that they are endued with the Spirit of God, who has delivered them from the slavery of sin, and so from the Law, inasmuch as it is the power of sin, so that they should not give themselves to lusts. The more we obey the new nature, and follow the leading of the Spirit of grace, the more the power of indwelling sin and inbred corruption in us will be mortified and kept under check. Obedience to the Spirit enables us to walk in the Spirit because old nature and new nature cannot dwell together. They “Are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish” (Galatians 5:17). Walking in the Spirit is one of the best ways we can live lives that are pleasing to God. By pleasing God, we attract His blessings upon our lives. In this case it is best for us to walk in the Spirit. We can do this well by knowing what God wants us to do through the study of the bible. When we have the word of God rooted in us, we will no longer be ignorant about what God expects from us. Are you walking in the flesh or in the Spirit?

Focus On Christ And Not Problem

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL

Friday January 27, 2017

Topic: Focus On Christ And Not Problem

Text: Matthew 14:28 – 33

The author of Hebrews advised us to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). Have you ever thought of living a good Christian life without Christ? Do you think it is possible?

Looking unto Jesus is very expedient because we will fail woefully if we undertake anything without the help of God. He is our help, our source of strength, our anchor, etc. He doesn’t fail. He has passed through this road and He alone is able to keep us through. Just keep trusting Him in all situations, no matter how severe or terrible the case may be.
The disciples doubted if the person walking on the sea and talking to them was Jesus Christ. This prompted Peter to make the request in Matthew 14:28. Jesus granted his request and he walked on the sea to meet Jesus. All was well as long as he focused on Jesus Christ but when he removed his eyes from Him, he saw the wave and his faith faltered. He started sinking but had to shout out to Jesus for help.

Most times we focus on our problems instead of focusing on the solution to the problem. Jesus is able to solve our problems. His verdict is what matters and He can overrule what the doctor has said or what Satan had decree. Therefore we shouldn’t be so upset when we face challenges. We should look up to Christ for help. He will always answer us.

Food for Thought: Hebrew 12:1

Memory verse: Matthew 14 verse 30 - But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

Prayer: God, I stretch out my hands to you this day. Help me out of all troubles aiming to swallow me up in Jesus name. Amen.
