The Alpha And Omega

Devotion for Saturday November 25, 2017
Topic: The Alpha And Omega
Text: Revelation 1:8
Alpha and Omega are the first and the last letters of Greek alphabets. By applying them to Himself, Christ had shown us that He is the cause and end of all things. In Revelation 1:11, similar application was made to God the Father, thus confirming the Trinity and what Jesus said that by Him everything that is made was made. This saying of Jesus has some inspirations for us as Christians. Jesus being the Alpha and Omega which is the beginning and the end means that He is aware of everything about us. He made us and everything about us is known to Him. As the Alpha and Omega, God is in control of the affairs of this world and this is the greatest assurance we have. He also knows what our end will be. This is a kind of reassurance for us that God knows when the problems confronting us will end. The second part of our text is a description of Christ as Jehovah; self-existing, unchangeable, and eternal. The truth here is that as God who called us is self-existing, He is also able to meet our needs. No matter the kind of boasting of our enemies and the rage they vent on God’s people, even in the interim, God remains the Author and Creator of all things. Whatsoever He proposes, declares, and promises surely must stand. As He is the end, He shall bring all the things which are revealed to a complete and glorious conclusion. What has God revealed to you? Just believe Him because in due time, it will come to a glorious conclusion (Philippians 1:6).
Food for Thought: As the Alpha and Omega, God is in control of the affairs of this world and this is the greatest assurance we have.
Memory verse: Isaiah 44:6
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you know everything about me as the Alpha and Omega, bring every promise concerning me to a glorious conclusion in Jesus name. Amen.

GOD IS JEALOUS: Devotion for Thursday November 12, 2015

GOD IS JEALOUS            Thursday November 12, 2015

Text: Nahum 1:1 – 8        Memory verse: v 2

The theme of this poem was the certainty and severity of God’s judgment on the enemies of His people. The prophet begins by describing God's awful attributes of righteousness and omnipotent power; because it is from these that the destruction of Nineveh comes. Bashan, Carmel, and Lebanon (1:4) were places known for their lush fertility (Amos 1:2; 4:1; Ezekiel 31:16). Divine wrath is not indiscriminate (1:7) because His mercies appertain to the righteous.

The Lord is inherently good and a stronghold for the righteous who seek refuge in His person. God promised to make an end of Nineveh (1:8, sweeps away). The Greek historian Ctesias recounted that the overthrow of Nineveh took place at a time of great flooding that swept away the city’s gates and the foundations of the king’s palace. This should make us understand that God is jealous whose words are sure to fulfill. Any hope in this?

Food for Thought: Isaiah 59:18

Prayer: Sow your fear in my heart, O Lord, to understand that you’re jealous.

PROPER KNOWLEDGE

PROPER KNOWLEDGE          Sunday May 31, 2015

Text: Philippians 4:10 – 13      Memory verse: v 12

If only Christians could understand what God’s will is for them, it will make them to live their lives fully without grudging. Our text is Paul’s personal testimony about contentment. Paul knew what it was like to live on almost nothing (1 Corinthians 4:11 – 13; 2 Corinthians 6:4 - 10). Although he taught that the churches should support their leaders, he did not demand salaries from the churches he planted. This kept him above criticism (2 Corinthians 11:7). Thus with travel and food costs, Paul probably had very little to live on. Paul also knew how to live with everything (to abound). The Greek word translated abound means ‘to overflow.’

Paul could get along happily because he saw life from God’s point of view. His focus was on what he was supposed to do, not what he felt he should have. He had his priorities straight, being grateful for all God gave him and he detached himself from the dispensable so that he could concentrate on the eternal. Is this a challenge for you?

Habitually, the desire for more or better possessions is really a longing to fill an empty place in our lives. How can you find true contentment? The answer lies in our perspective, our priorities, and our source of power.

Food for Thought: How many of us Christians have learned this important lesson of how to find true contentment?

Prayer: God, teach me to be contented in whatever situation I find myself in my Christian race to heaven.

Request: Pray for Tabugbo Uzoma as he celebrates his birthday today.
