A Traitorous Kiss: Devotion for Wednesday in Holy Week April 8, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday in Holy Week April 8, 2020
Topic: A Traitorous Kiss
Text: Matthew 26:47 – 68
Naturally, kiss is an expression of love (affection) or greeting. One would easily think that the kiss Judas gave to Jesus was expression of affection or greeting judging from the definition of kiss but this one is a kiss with different purpose. Such a traitorous kiss was the depth of depravity - enmity under the guise of friendship. That was pretence at the highest level where Judas called Jesus Rabbi while he had already betrayed Him. This is similar to what happened between Joab and Amasa in 2 Samuel 10:9, 10. Read it.
Treachery is sin and has its punishment either immediately or later. Though Judas aided the fulfillment of the scripture by betraying his Master, he had his reward (Matthew 26:24).
There are many ways we betray Jesus. Judas did his with a kiss. Some of us do ours with lies, denial, negligence, abuse of Christian faith, etc. We should note that betraying our Master is sin. Some of us betray Jesus as a result of pressures of peer group, friends, colleagues, etc., who lure us into sin.

As Christians, we must be very careful in choosing our friends because it is easier for a friend to betray you than an enemy. Judas was a ready tool in the hands of the Chief Priest and his cohorts because he was an insider in the ministry of Jesus. It is my prayer that God will not allow you to have friends that will betray you in Jesus name.
Action: Write down some of the ways people betray one another.
Memory verse: Matthew 26:49
Prayer: Ask God to forgive you in any way you have betrayed Him.

LET THEM COME TO ME

LET THEM COME TO ME         Wednesday May 27, 2015

Text: Matthew 19:13 – 15           Memory verse: v 14

We congratulate and rejoice with our children as they celebrate 2015 Children’s Day. We thank God for the gift of children and pray that God will bless all our children, make them to grow up in the fear and favour of God and that they will not become thorns on our flesh neither will they be source of heart attack for us in Jesus name. As we say Amen to this prayer, it is proper to remind us that we have a duty to make this prayer work.

It was customary for people to bring their children to a Rabbi for a blessing. Thus people were bringing children to Jesus so that he could lay His hands on them and pray for them. The disciples thought the children were unworthy of the Master’s time. Jesus told his disciples to let the children come because the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these. The disciples must have forgotten what Jesus had said about children earlier (18:4 – 6). Heaven belongs to such as children because they don’t keep malice, they love and easily forgive. They are open hearted. This is one character God desires to see in us.

How can you bring your children to God? Think about it because there are so many ways you can do it – initiation into the church by baptism, Sunday school, Children ministry, Church activities and programmes. If you have not been doing so, start today. Send them to Jesus Christ.

Food for Thought: Matthew 18:3

Prayer: Lord grant unto parents the wisdom they need to train their children according to your will and purpose in Jesus name
