Be Consistent: Devotion for Monday May 4, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Monday May 4, 2020
Topic: Be Consistent
Text: 2 Timothy 4:1 – 8
Consistency is one of the bedrocks for excellence. Before you can make your mark that will bring you to the podium for recognition, you would have shown a great deal of consistency in your career.
Today, ‘My Daily Covenant with God’ is gaining popularity because I refused to be discouraged by what people say or do. I have weathered the storm in the past years and refused to give up. These are some of the lessons I learnt from our mentor, Robin Sharma in his book, ‘A Leader who had no title.’ How determined are you to make it to the podium in your career? It demands consistency. Are you already washing your net? Don’t give up. A little more effort will make all the difference in your career in Jesus name.
In our text, Paul was telling Timothy that his call demands consistency in preaching and teaching of the word of God; being ready in season and out of season to preach, teach, discipline, etc., (2 Timothy 4:2). This is the only way he can make his mark as a pastor.
This call to be consistent is not only in the Christian ministerial work. Such consistency is needed in all the careers of life. Before you be known in your career, you would have shown more commitment, zeal, dedication, passion, enthusiasm, etc., more than others you work with.
How passionate, committed and enthusiastic are you in your work as a minister of the gospel; as a Christian, as a teacher, trader, artisan, civil/public servant, etc.? Be consistent because that will bring you to the peak of your career in Jesus name.
Food for Thought: How consistent are you in your Christianity and career?
Memory verse: 2 Timothy 4:2
Prayer: Help me O Lord, to be consistent in my Christian race and career so I will make it to the podium at last in Jesus name.

What May I Do For You? Devotion for Thursday March 19, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Thursday March 19, 2020
Topic: What May I Do For You?
Text: 2 Kings 2:9 – 12
Today’s topic is similar to that of Wednesday but what led to the question here is different. Elijah was about to be taken away by God and his faithful servant and some other prophets knew about this. While other prophets were comfortable with their position Elisha who was a mere servant wanted to step into his master’s shoes. He was determined to get something from Elijah before God takes him. It was his determination and persistence that made Elijah to ask the question in our text today.
There are lessons for us here.
1. When you have a need, be determined to find a solution to it in a godly way. Elisha was determined. All words of discouragement from Elijah and people did not deter him. He kept following. We should not be deterred by what people say. We should always keep our focus on God (Hebrews 12:2).
2. Elisha persisted and was focused. Most times after a session of prayers about our need, we give up. It ought not to be so. Jesus taught us about persistence in prayer in Luke 18:1ff. We shouldn’t easily give up. Keep on trying; your miracle is in the next attempt.
3. What Elisha asked for was in the will of God. He never asked for mansion, wealth or other worldly things rather he asked for what he will use to the glory of God and he got it at the end.
Most times our requests are mundane things. When we ask from God what pleases Him, He will always grant our requests.
Food for Thought: Elisha’s desire for a double portion of the spirit is not out of greed but that which will prepare him for usefulness and for glory of God.
Memory verse: Matthew 7:7
Prayer: Grant to me, O Lord, everything that will be useful for me to serve you and humanity in Jesus name.

DO SOMETHING TO BE GREAT: Devotion for Sunday October 4, 2015

DO SOMETHING TO BE GREAT                   Sunday October 4, 2015

Text: Genesis 32:24 – 32                             Memory verse: v 26
Jacob wrestled with the angel of the Lord and prevailed. When it was almost day break, the angel requested that Jacob should let him go but he insisted for a blessing and he got it. Jacob, now understanding who it was that had been wrestling with him, felt encouraged to cleave to Him till He should bless him. Those that would have the blessing of Christ must be earnest and be persistent for it. In Genesis 32:28 and 29, he got a new name and was blessed (compare Hosea 12:4).

Beloved, what is that thing you need to do to become great? To every one of us, what we can do varies. Some may need to pray the more, be a source of blessings and encouragement to someone; you may need to offer what you have now to get a better one, you may need to sow seed of faith or put yourself more into your work, etc. If you don’t actually know, earnestly ask God for inspiration and guidance. He will lead you into it. This is very important so that you will not toil in vain or work for the wind. Be determined and purposeful and God will see you through.

Food for Thought: For you to receive the best blessings of life from Christ, you must be earnest and be persistent for it.

Prayer: God, help me to do that thing which will make me great in life.
