God’s Word Gives Life: Devotion for Wednesday May 20, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday May 20, 2020
Topic: God’s Word Gives Life
Text: Ezekiel 37:1 – 14
Many lessons are in this biblical passage especially when we feel discouraged in life. It shows us the power of God over hopeless situations. It also reveals the power in God’s word and inabilities in man. God alone is the one whose word stands.
The bible says in Lamentation 3:37, “Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, when the Lord has not commanded it?” God used this revelation to illustrate how He will restore Israel from their hopeless situation in captivity to glory in their land (37:12 – 14). God likened the spiritual dead situation of Israel at that time to dry bones.
Your church may seem like a heap of dry bones to you, spiritually dead with no hope of vitality. But just as God promised to restore His nation Israel, He can restore any church, no matter how dry or dead it may be. Rather than give up, pray for revival and renewal, for God can restore it to life. The hope and prayer of every church should be that God will put His Spirit into it (37:14). In fact, God is at work calling his people back to Himself, bringing new life into dead churches.
On the other hand, your spiritual life; you business, your marriage, etc, may be as dry as bones and there seem to be no more lives in them. Never mind, God is able to turn it around. Go to Him in prayer today and He will send revival and renewal.
Food for Thought: God has answers to dryness in our physical and spiritual lives.
Memory verse: Ezekiel 37:7
Prayer:
1. Lord God, cause life into any dryness in my physical and spiritual life.
2. God revive everything in your church especially where I worship.

The Danger In Doubting God's Word

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Sunday May 28, 2017
Topic: The Danger In Doubting God’s Word
Text: 2 Kings 7:1 – 2
When Angel Gabriel gave God’s message to Zachariah that his wife Elizabeth will give birth to a son they will call John, he doubted the message because he and his wife were aged, and he was punished. God did not spare him because he was a priest. He became dumb till God fulfilled what he doubted (Luke 1:18–20; 1:62–64). Doubt and faithlessness has consequences on our lives as they deny us most of the good things that should have come our way.
The statement of the officer in our text was an expression of unbelief, for which Elisha immediately announced that he should be excluded from a share in the coming plenty. It is unlikely that this prediction will be fulfilled, that the officer thought God must pour out wheat and barley from heaven before it could have a literal accomplishment. The way this man was cut off from this blessing is the most unfortunate thing that can happen to any man. He saw but didn’t partake of it.
Do you doubt God’s promises about getting married, getting a good job, admission, children, etc? Repent today before God will punish you for doubting. Rom. 4:17–22 is clear evidence that Abraham did not waver in faith. Trust God as Abraham did. There are many requests we make and fail to receive the answer not because God is not willing to answer us but because of our doubt and unbelief. No wonder the opinion of James in James 1:6. Doubt can bring fear and make us undermine the potentials in us. Again, we should be mindful of saying negative things about ourselves and others as words are living being.
Food for Thought: Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we might win by fearing to attempt – William Shakespeare.
Memory verse: 2 Kings 7 verse 2b

Prayer: God, remove fear and doubt in me, and strengthen my faith in Jesus name.

A reward for doing what God wants: Devotion for Monday February 8, 2016

A REWARD FOR DOING WHAT GOD WANTS        Monday February 8, 2016

Text: Psalm 1:1 – 3                        Memory verse: v 3

Parents are always happy when their children carry out their instructions to the letter. They usually reward such obedience. In like manner God is always happy when we obey His commands and He blesses us. When He told Abraham to go and sacrifice his son Isaac and he obeyed, the response of God is in Gen 22:15–18 (read it). In this psalm is a reward for doing what God wants us to do. The theme of this psalm is the permanent prosperity and happiness of the righteous, and the certain destruction of the wicked. The reward for doing what God wants is blessing which the Psalmist likened to a tree planted by the riverside. Devotion to God is the way not only of duty, but of safety, prosperity, and happiness. For this reason, God blesses the righteous man.

The key to doing what God wants is through meditation on His word. If we so desire to be blessed by God, we must have constant regard to and for His word, as the rule of our actions, and the spring of our comforts; and have it in our thoughts night and day (Josh 1:8). How do you take the word of God? What amount of time do you give to read; study and meditate on word of God? That is the key to the breakthrough you desire always.

Food for Thought: The frequency and earnestness in meditating on God’s word is what ensures our growth and brings blessings upon us

Prayer: Help me, O Lord, to earnestly and frequently meditate on your word to guarantee my blessings in Jesus name.

DON’T OPPOSE YOURSELF: Devotion for Saturday October 10, 2015

DON’T OPPOSE YOURSELF             Saturday October 10, 2015

Text: Proverbs 28:13                           Memory verse: v 13

Our text relates to repentance. (1) If the sinner does not acknowledge his sins but covers and excuses them, and refuses to come to the light of God's word, lest his deeds should be reproved, he shall find no salvation. God will never admit an unrepentant soul, into His kingdom. (2) But if he confesses his sin, with a penitent and broken heart, and forsaking every evil way, then he shall have mercy. Here is a doctrine of salvation of the soul, which could be easily understood.

There are benefits in repentance through a penitent confession. Anyone that confesses his sins to God, and is careful not to return to them again, shall find mercy with God. His conscience shall be eased and his ruin prevented. Again, the favour and blessings of God will come upon that person thereby making all he does to prosper (compare Psalm 1:1 – 3). True repentance will avert labouring for the wind and bags with holes (Ecclesiastics 5:6; Haggai 1:6). Do yourself a favour today by repenting. God will certainly forgive you.

Food for Thought: Psalm 32:1, 2

Prayer: Almighty God, grant me the grace to always confess my sins and make necessary restitution which guarantee prosperous life.

THE SIGN OF NEW BIRTH: Devotion for Thursday September 24, 2015

THE SIGN OF NEW BIRTH         Thursday September 24, 2015

Text: 1 Peter 1:22 - 23              Memory verse: v 22

P
eter expects that Christian growth in purity and holiness would result in deeper love among Christians—not merely outward appearance or profession, but sincere love for Christian brothers and sisters. Despite our differences and disagreements, we can have sincere love for one another, and as we grow in holiness, we can learn to love each other intensely because of the Holy Spirit within us (John 13:34-35).

Peter gave another reason to love others: Believers have a common ground in Christ. We have all been born again; we are sinners saved by grace. Our new life did not come from our earthly parents; that life will one day end in death. Our new life will last forever because it was given to us by the eternal, living word of God. God’s word lives and endures forever, because God who gave it lives and endures from eternity past to eternity future. How much do you love others? That is evidence that you are truly born again.

Food for Thought: Do you have evidence to prove that you are born again?

Prayer: God, help me to love others as you loved me in Jesus name.

JUST AS GOD SAID

JUST AS GOD SAID            Wednesday June 24, 2015

Text: 1 King 17:8 – 16          Memory verse: v 16

God’s word that has been spoken doesn’t go back to him without fulfilling the purpose for which it was sent (Isaiah 55:11) When God says something, nothing hinders it from coming to fruition because He is not man who cannot cause His word to manifest (Lamentation 3:37). Verse 16 confirms what God said through Elijah the prophet in 17:14.

When the widow of Zarephath met Elijah, she thought she was going to prepare her last meal. But a simple act of faith produced a miracle. She trusted Elijah and gave all she had to him. Faith is the step between promise and assurance. Miracles seem so out of reach for our feeble faith. However, every miracle, large or small, begins with an act of obedience. We may not see the solution until we take the first step of faith. This is what God expects from us.

God’s word taken to heart by faith is the gateway to miracle. Most people don’t believe the word of God (the Bible) because the name used there is not theirs but Abraham, Moses, Hannah, Elizabeth, Samuel, etc. The proper way to get the real blessing from the word of God is by fixing your name where there is a name. Where it speaks good, you will learn and where it speaks evil you will receive warning. Whatever God has spoken about you, just believe and act in obedience. Is it about your salvation, marriage, studies, job, children, fruit of the womb, etc? It will surely come to pass.

Food for Thought: Isaiah 45:23.

Prayer: Lord God, as you speak to me through your word, grant me the heart to act on them so that all will come to fulfillment in Jesus name.
