He Gives Power to Our Dying Body: Devotion for Wednesday April 15, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday April 15, 2020
Topic: He Gives Power to Our Dying Body
Text: Romans 8:10 – 17
When the Holy Spirit is in us, Christ is in us. He dwells in the heart by faith. Christ’s Spirit lives within our human spirits. The presence of Christ in us will automatically make our bodies to resist and reject sin (Romans 8:10). Any Christian who receives the grace and Spirit of Christ, and continues to live under its influence, a life of obedience to the Divine will, shall have a resurrection to eternal life (Romans 8:11).
The point Paul made here was that we are promised the physical resurrection of our bodies into eternal life. The Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to us. So there is wonderful hope even for our prone-to-decay bodies which will eventually be transformed into immortality.
In another dimension, the presence of Holy Spirit resuscitates our physical bodies too. When the Spirit of God dwells in you, Satan and sickness will not have upper hand in your body except God permits it as in case of Job.
Are you sick in the body and desire healing from God? Then you need to invite the Spirit of God into your life. You can start with praises for God dwells in the praises of His people. His presence will bring life to that withered hand and crippled legs in Jesus name. You, who is sick, and reading this devotion, God is saying to you, give me chance to come in now and you will see the difference the presence of God will bring into your life. Will you do that?
Food for Thought: Life comes from the Spirit of God (Ezekiel 37:10)
Memory verse: 2 Corinthians 6:14
Prayer: Release upon me O Lord, your Spirit to my dying body to revive it again in Jesus name.

The Power Of Unity

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Tuesday March 28, 2017
Topic: The Power Of Unity
Text: Acts 4:32 – 37
Unity is indispensable among Christians if they hope to achieve the mandate given by Christ to make disciples of all nations. This is so because no single Christian has all that is needed to build the body of Christ. All of us have diverse gifts that should be coordinated to build the church of God. Unity is possible where there is love.
The disciples were in one accord because they love one another. They were able to share possessions and property as a result of the unity brought by the Holy Spirit working in and through them. What they shared were offered voluntarily; they were basically things needed and giving up what one has for the good of other believers was not a membership requirement in order to be a part of the church. The spiritual unity and generosity of these early believers attracted others to them.
The way the disciples lived and shared things together in unity is an example for present day church but it may not be possible to do it exactly the way it was done by the early church. The organizational structure they used was not a command in the bible, but there are vital principles we can adopt to make our present day church more united and efficient in the task of discipleship.
What can you say about your church in terms of unity? Some Christians today are so selfish and self-centred that they find it hard to associate with others. This lack of oneness and unity is the reason why we find it hard to progress in our churches. If we can emulate the early church’s unity, we will certainly see unprecedented growth in our churches.
Food for thought: The best way to strengthen our faith and unity is to meet regularly for prayer, bible studies and worship.
Memory verse: Acts 2:44
Prayer: Lord God, unite your church and make Christians to live in one accord as it was in the early church.

THE POWER IN THE WORD OF GOD: Devotion for Friday November 25, 2016

THE POWER IN THE WORD OF GOD: Devotion for Friday November 25, 2016
Text: 2 Kings 22:11 – 13          Memory verse: 2 Kings 22 verse 11
King Josiah sent message through Shaphan the scribe to Hilkiah the high priest. Shaphan returned words to the king about the book of the Law Hilkiah found (2 Kings 22:8). Shaphan read it to the hearing of the king (2 Kings 22:10). On hearing the words of God written in the book of the Law, Josiah knew that he and his people were in danger of God’s wrath, condemnation and judgment. He tore his clothes on account of the judgments denounced in the law against the people; and to which they were exposed to on account of their idolatry (2 Kings 22:13).
He sent people to inquire of the Lord for him, and for his people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against them, because their fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according to all that, which is written concerning them.
The word of God King Josiah heard started burning in him because he opened his heart to receive it. He didn’t give halfhearted attention to it as some of us do. These words that moved King Josiah unto godly repentance may not move some other persons to even blink an eye. This shows that the effect of the world of God on us depends on how we pay attention to it and how we accept it. If we accept the word of God wholeheartedly, it will yield abundant result of righteousness and fruitfulness for us.
The word of God is quick and powerful (Heb. 4:12). When we read it with open heart to hear from God, take instruction and gain wisdom, it will surely prick our heart if we have been living in sin. The word of God, whether of law or grace, whether of promise or threatening, imparts to it, His own divine power. It lays open every heart, and detects all hypocrisy and unbelief. This is what the word did in heart of Josiah. Are you living a life of unbelief, hypocrisy and sin? You should yield your heart to God, allowing him to reveal your sin and thereafter repent of them. Are you ready to do that?
Food for Thought: Jeremiah 23:29
Prayer: Lord, empower your word as I read it so that it will bring out in me godly sorrow which brings repentance in Jesus name.

POWER TO YOUR DYING BODY: Devotion for Wednesday March 30, 2016

POWER TO YOUR DYING BODY: Devotion for Wednesday March 30, 2016

Text: Romans 8:10 – 17                Memory verse: v 11

If the Holy Spirit be in us, Christ is in us. He dwells in the heart by faith. Christ’s Spirit lives within our human spirits. The presence of Christ in us will automatically make our bodies to resist and reject sin (8:10). Any Christian who receives the grace and Spirit of Christ, and continues to live under its influence, a life of obedience to the Divine will, shall have a resurrection to eternal life; and the resurrection of Christ shall be the pattern after which they shall be raised (8:11). The point Paul made here is that we are promised the physical resurrection of our bodies into eternal life. The Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to us. So there is wonderful hope even for our prone-to-decay bodies.

In another dimension, the presence of Holy Spirit resuscitates our physical bodies too. When the Spirit of God dwells in you, Satan and sickness will not have upper hand in your body. Prayer: Release upon me O Lord, your Spirit to my dying body to revive it again in Jesus name.
