God Comforts Us: Devotion for Thursday January 30, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Thursday January 30, 2020
Topic: God Comforts Us
Text: Isaiah 51:1 – 3
Those who are born again should consider that they were shaped in sin. This should cause them to have low thoughts of themselves, and high thoughts of divine grace we have received by virtue of our new birth.
Our text is a call to steadfast faith in the Lord. If we consider our present state, we will be discouraged. For this reason, God speaking through the prophet Isaiah called on us to consider where and how we started. He also challenged us to look at the life of Abraham our father of faith and his wife Sarah how He increased them. He thus assured His people of His comfort in their troubled state with promise of restoration (Isaiah 5:3).
Beloved, our God is a covenant keeping God. He that called us is faithful (Deut. 7:9; Nehemiah 9:32). He called us for a purpose which among them is to increase us and comfort us. In this world, we are faced with so many challenges of life like protracted sickness; sever wants, spiritual battles, etc. All these are what we face because we are still in the world. However, there is a place God has prepared for us that is void of all this challenges.
In the interim however, He has assures us of His comfort (Psalm 102:13; Isaiah 40:1; 51:12; 52:9 – 10). What is it that you lack now? He will make all to flourish again like the Garden of Eden in all areas of your life; your health, finances, marriage, studies, etc. Hold on to Him for He will surely comfort you.
Food for Thought: When God says something, He performs it.
Memory verse: Psalm 102:13
Prayer: Lord, send your comfort to me in my troubled situations

Go to God and Stop Giving Excuses: Devotion for Friday January 17 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Friday January 17 2020
Topic: Go to God and Stop Giving Excuses
Text: 1 King 19:9 – 18
The question God asked Elijah, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" is a reproof. The reason is that he left what he was called to do. He abandoned his duty post just because he felt his life was in danger. He complained of the people, and their obstinacy in sin; “I only am left.”
Despair of success hinders many a good enterprise. This is what we do at times asking ourselves the question God asked Elijah. Am I where I should be? Has God actually called me? Is this what I can do and be successful?
Elijah came to the mountain of the Lord and God met with him. The Lord not being in the wind, earthquake and fire indicate that Elijah would not reform Israel by terrific outward displays of God’s power, but by the quiet persevering labours of his servants, under the invisible and silent influences of His Spirit. Finally, God spoke and told him what to do in verses 15 – 18.
When we are fearful, discouraged, and desponding, we should go to God’s mountain. Running away will worsen our fears and thus we will not fulfill our call and ministry. God will not accept any excuse for failing to fulfill our ministry.
Are you running away from what God has called you into; marriage, evangelism, going to preach to that ‘notorious criminal’, etc.? Are you giving God excuses why you will not do His bidding? He does not accept excuses. Ask Him for grace to carry on, He will oblige you.
Food for Thought: When people neglect their duty, they are more likely to complain, find fault with others, and sink into despair.
Memory verse: 1 Kings 18:22
Sing A&M 184; CONH 272 (Dear Lord and Father of mankind) before you pray
Prayer: God, remove fear and excuses from my heart and strengthen me to do what you have called me to do in Jesus name.

He Comforts The Downcast

Devotion for Thursday November 30, 2017
Topic: He Comforts The Downcast
Text: 2 Corinthians 7:5 – 11
Paul was beset by fear and concern for Titus and the Corinthians (2 Corinthians 2:13). But God had encouraged him at the right time with the arrival of Titus. Being reunited with a fellow labourer in Christ brought him joy. But more than that, the news Titus brought from Corinth was enough cause for joy too. God gives us consolation when we are anxious and depressed. The consolations Paul enjoyed were from God, no matter the instrument used. Paul acknowledged God who was the author of the consolation he received. Titus brought him a most satisfactory report of the success of his epistle, and the good state of the Corinthian Church; a boost for his missionary work.
Many a time, we are often discouraged. We look for consolation and comfort as we labour for God and none seem to come. People we work amongst them even frustrate us. The devil and his agents are also on one side fighting against the work we do and we seem very discouraged. At other times, it seems too that God has withdrawn his grace from us. However, in whatever situation we find ourselves, God has ways of comforting us. When Gideon was so discouraged and frustrated, an angel of God brought comfort and encouragement. Are you down and discouraged? God will definitely bring comfort and consolation for you. He will cause your fears to go and your tears to dry in Jesus name. Amen
Food for Thought: 2 Corinthians 1:5
Memory verse: 2 Corinthians 7:6
Prayer: Comfort me O God, in all areas I am discouraged and in need in Jesus name Amen.

Don’t Be Discouraged

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Thursday February 9, 2017
Topic: Don’t Be Discouraged
Text: Deuteronomy 1:21
Discouragement comes to us on daily basis in the course of our desire to fulfil our life’s dream. When we don’t have discouragement or opposition it will seem as if we are on the wrong part towards realization of our set goals. You may ask, why do people usually discourage us? People discourage us because of the fear they have concerning the risks we undertake in attaining our goals. Some do it due to lack of understanding of your dream. Some do it just to threaten you. While some do it as a result of envy and jealousy.
As part of Moses’ farewell speech to the Israelites at Kadesh-barnea, he shows them how near they were to a happy settlement in Canaan and encouraged them to complete the journey. So many people have missed out in their blessings because they gave up at almost the end of their journey or race. If we have the vision of what will be the result of our set goals, nothing will discourage us. Jesus Christ our example endured all forms of abuse, rejection, suffering and even death on the Cross of Calvary because of the joy set before Him (Heb. 12:2). If Christ suffered because He was looking forward to the joy of heaven, why should we be discouraged because we are suffering for the sake of our salvation?
Why are you discouraged on going ahead with that project, etc? Is it because of fear, threats, envy, jealousy or abandonment by loved ones? Beloved, you can make it. A little effort more is all you need to be there. Give it a trial.
Food for thought: Discouragement had denied many people their blessings when they were almost at the line to embrace the tape.
Memory verse: Deuteronomy 1 verse 21
Prayer: God, remove discouragement from my heart and grant me the spirit of faith, boldness and sound mind.

Don’t Be Easily Discouraged

My Daily Covenant with God Devotional
Devotion for Monday January 9, 2017
Topic: Don’t Be Easily Discouraged
Text: Exodus 14:10–12
Most times we are easily discouraged by what we hear, see or read. For this reason, we must beware of what we watch, read or hear. Some of the stories we hear come with fear and intimidation that can make us loose faith. The things we watch; listen to or read should be things that build our faith and not the ones that can demoralize and put fear into us. This is one problem I have with some present day preachers who emphasis are more on what they enemies can do or have done more than what Jesus Christ has done for us and will still do.
The Israelites were quick to complain. There was nothing they did not complain about ranging from water, food, leadership, etc. Having seen the plagues God meted out on Egyptians before they left, that would have strengthened their faith, unfortunately, it wasn’t so. Instead they doubted every word of God that Moses brought to them.
An impatient man cannot wait for God’s appointed time and that was the case here. The Israelites were discouraged and their hearts melted because they saw the rage and speed at which the Egyptians were coming, and they forgot that God controls the affairs of men. There are times when we face challenges and life threatening issues that we lose focus on God. Some people will complain and grumble that they were better off being unbelievers. Such act is a first degree of distrust and lack of confidence in God. He is able to protect, provide and fight our battles. There are some who are easily discouraged by lack of food, money, job, prospective spouse, etc. These are temporal affliction the devil uses to distract us. We should not give in to them. No matter the situation we may find ourselves, let us know that our God is able to protect, provide and fight for us.
Food for Thought: “History has demonstrated that most notable winners usually encounter heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to be discouraged by their defeat” – B. C. Forbes.
Memory verse: Exodus 14 verse 12 - Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness (ESV).
Prayer: Grant, O Lord, that I will I will not distrust you or lose confidence in you in Jesus name.
