Israel Are Special People: Devotion for Friday August 21, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL

Devotion for Friday August 21, 2020

Topic: Israel Are Special People

Text: Deuteronomy 33:26 – 29

This song of Moses declares that God is the refuge of the people of Israel, their only true security. This is one reason he said that the Israelites are privileged and special. There is none like the God as Israel. Thus there are no people like the Israel of God. This also applies to the New Israel or the Spiritual Israel which we belong.

Here are some of the peculiarities of Israel.

1. They were always well seated and sheltered. Those who make God their habitation shall have all the comforts and benefits of a habitation in Him (Psalm 91:1).

2. Never were people so well supported and borne up. God stoops to be with His people at any time. His everlasting arms are underneath them, to keep the spirit from sinking, from fainting, and their faith from failing. Divine grace is sufficient for them.

3. They were well commanded. Thus believers are more than conquerors over their spiritual enemies, through Christ that loved them.

4. The people were well secured and protected. Israel shall dwell in safety alone.

5. Never were people so well provided for; so helped, so well-armed, so well assured of victory over their enemies. Is there any other thing that can make us more special than these?

Food for Thought: What more makes someone so special than these?

Memory verse: Deuteronomy 33 v 29

Prayer: May God help us to seek and to set our affections on Him alone; that we may have our lot with Israel of God, in the realms of love and eternal happiness, and not  Israel's foes in the regions of darkness and despair.

NOT THE SPECIAL TYPE: Devotion for Thursday July 28, 2016

NOT THE SPECIAL TYPE: Devotion for Thursday July 28, 2016

Text: 1 Corinthians 1:25 – 31

Memory verse: 1 Corinthians 1:26 – For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.

Our text is one of the passages in the bible that clearly show us that God is not respecter of human reason. What we value here on earth doesn’t even concern Him. It is for this reason the bible says that His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thought (Isaiah 55:8 & 9). Who would have believed that Jesus Christ would bypass all the intellectual Pharisees, Scribes and Lawyers of His days to pick mere fishermen as disciples? This is why Paul writes that God doesn’t prefer the special type as Living Bible puts it in 1 Corinthians 1:26.

Paul tells the Corinthians that they should note that the general character and condition of those who are Christians among them have not been generally taken from the wise, the rich, and the learned, but from those of humble life. The design of the Apostle here is to show that the gospel did not depend for its success, on human wisdom. Rather, God prefers to use people who will humble themselves, obey and walk with Him.

Beloved, if being a Christian is based on social status, will you have been considered by God to be a Christian how much more being a preacher of the gospel? I know that many Christians wouldnt have been considered good enough to be Christians. People like me won’t have become priest because I don’t have human qualification for that. But God doesn’t apply human rule. What this implies is that we who are privileged to be called should serve God in humility and appreciation. When you are tempted to pride on what God is using you to do, always remember that God called you not according to human standards, not because you were wise, powerful, or noble (well-born) but just by His grace. Therefore, live a life of gratitude to God for such a rare privilege.

Food for Thought: Ephesians 2:8 & 9

Prayer: Thank you Lord, for picking me out of the miry clay and made me what I am today. Keep me faithful till the end. Help me to live and serve you in gratitude for such privilege you have given me in Jesus name.
