Bear Much Fruit For God

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Thursday January 3
Topic: Bear Much Fruit For God
Text: John 15:1 – 8
Nothing gladdens the heart of any farmer than seeing his efforts bearing fruits as expected. It makes him so happy and he will want to do more. In the same way, nothing pleases God more than seeing his children doing His will and bearing fruits for His kingdom. In fact God expects us to bear fruits as He charged Adam in Genesis 1:28. He has just brought us into a new year and he has bestowed much grace and mercies upon us. God loves those that obey and glorify Him. This is the secret Jesus revealed in this our text, that those that obey God and do His will are glorifying Him.
The best way to glorify God for the mercies and graces we have received is to bear fruits. This is what is expected of us as Paul charged the Corinthians and we by extension that we should abound in good works (1 Corinthians 15:58). The Spirit of God stimulates good works in us as we have in John 15:5 and being fruitful is an evidence or demonstration of true discipleship.
What fruit are you bearing or do you intend to bear in this New Year? We have the fruits of the flesh (Galatians 5:19 – 21) and also the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22 – 23). In your office, do your words and actions show that you are a Christian, and do you bear fruit for Him there or you compromise your faith? As a driver, do you connive with the Motor Mechanic to defraud your boss? Do you make unnecessary claims for the money of the work you didn’t do?
Our fruits should glorify God and edify man.  Jesus Christ said that we are the light of the world and He also charged us to let our light shine. Are you among those whose lights appear dim or those whose lights are shinning for others to see? Therefore, live as Jesus Christ charged us in Matthew 5:16
Food for Thought: Whatever that is worth doing at all is worth doing well – Lord Chesterfield
Memory verse: Matthew 5:16
Prayer: Help me O Lord to bear fruits that will glorify you through my words and deeds in Jesus name.

Hand Them Over To God

Devotion for Saturday March 3, 2018
Topic: Hand Them Over To God
Text: Psalm 55:16 – 23
In Matthew 7:7 and 8, Jesus told us to ask, seek and find, and it shall be given to us. He did not restrict our asking to certain number of times rather He enjoins us to ask as many times as we can (Luke 18:1). The Psalmist enjoins us to do same (Psalm 55:22) because he has been doing it and has always received answers from God. He testified and gave God all the glory for redeeming him. He was emphatic about seeking the face of God because he has the assurance that God will sustain us.
The reason God will answer us is because He does not permit the righteous to slip or fall. Lack of basic necessities can make us slip off the faith. This shows the mercies and loving kindness of God upon us. God wants us to give our burdens to Him (see Psalm 37:5, 24; Matthew 6:25; Luke 12:22; 1 Peter 5:7). Unfortunately, we often continue to bear them ourselves even when we say we are trusting in Him.
If we believe in God, we should hand over our cares, worries, needs, anxieties, apprehensions and burden to Him. Why will you continue to bear the burden you don’t even have solution to? Daily we trust God to wake us up and He does that. We should also trust the same strength that sustains us to carry our cares and solve our problems also. God is waiting for you. Believe Him as you go out today that He will surprise you.
Sing 319; Abu 247
Food for Thought: When we depend on God for all we need, we will have peace of mind
Memory verse: Psalm 55:22
Prayer: God, I bring my burden to you for I know you care for me.

Best Ways To Bear Worthy Fruits

Devotion for Wednesday January 3, 2018
Topic: Best Ways To Bear Worthy Fruits
Text: Luke 3:10 – 14
The question the people of Jerusalem, all Judea, and the entire region around the Jordan asked John is what all meaningful Christians should ask God at the beginning of the year like this which is "what shall we do then?" The question they asked John is similar to what we have in Acts 2:37. John had to enumerate some of the areas people of diverse professions commit sin against God and humanity. He mentioned acts of charity (Kindness to the needy), honesty and sincerity among tax collectors in collecting taxes. He also charged soldiers to stop intimidating people or accusing them falsely, and to be contented with their wages. A closer look at John’s answers in Luke 3:11 – 14 gives a clear picture of our present day society. Can you do a comparison with your society? Some people have decided to be doing these and many other crimes despite the word of God they preach and hear. Their reasons are that a labourer deserves his wages and their salaries have not been paid. Beloved, you have no excuse to extort money from people or falsify scales to make gains. These are attributes of unbelievers. It should not be seen or heard among believers. If you had been in it, repent today. God expects us to bear good fruits for Him. We can only do it through righteousness and not through deceit if we hope to benefit from His blessings for us. Sing A&M 361; Abu 128
Food for Thought: One of the first demands of religion is to be good and it is the best way to show that our repentance is not feigned.
Memory verse: 1 John 3:17
Prayer: Lord God, grant that I will bear fruits worthy of my repentance in Jesus name. Amen

Those Who Bear The Name Of The Lord

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday July 5, 2017
Topic: Those Who Bear The Name Of The Lord
Bearing the name of the Christ is the highest privilege God has conferred on us. Moses told the Israelites that God requires total and absolute obedience from them for that is the way His promises of blessings will come upon and overtake them. When these blessings start manifesting in their lives, people will know that they bear the name of the Lord. It will show that they are most excellent and glorious people, under the peculiar care and countenance of a great God.
This promise is not only for the old Israel but also for the New Israel. We stand to gain so many things as those who bear the name of the Lord They are enumerated in Deuteronomy 28:2 – 14 which include people becoming afraid of us (see Deuteronomy 11:25). Another thing we stand to gain as people who bear the name of God is that we have the right to call on God to intervene on our behalf when the enemies confront us. As people who bear the name of the Lord, we have the right to call on God any moment and He will answer us (2 Chronicles 7:14).
However, we shouldn’t forget that it is not just bearing the name of God alone but that there are conditions attached to these blessings. The primary condition is in Deuteronomy 28:1 and 2. Obedience to God’s injunctions is necessary for our own food and blessings. We who bear the name of God should be exemplary in exhibiting the character of Christ so that people around us will see God’s glory manifesting in us. Our Christianity will be meaningless if it does not affect lives of people we meet on daily basis. Bearing the name of God should challenge us to live well in our homes, offices and in our neighbourhood.
Food for Thought: The name of the Lord is our source of protection, providence, defence and anchor. Is that name in you.
Memory verse: Deuteronomy 28 verse 10
Prayer: Help me O Lord to live out your name I bear in Jesus name.

BEAR ONE ANOTHER

DEVOTION FOR THURSDAY DECEMBER 8, 2016
Topic: BEAR ONE ANOTHER
Text: Galatians 6:1 – 5
No Christian should ever think that he or she is totally independent and doesn’t need help from other Christians, and no one should feel excused from the task of helping others because what Mr A has (talents and gifts) Mr B may not have. This understanding is very important if we are to maintain the unity of faith Jesus Christ prayed for. The body of Christ (the church) functions only when the members work together for the common good (1 Corinthians 12:12–26) one another.
In our bible reading for the day, Paul addressed the problem of individual sin by explaining corporate (group) responsibility towards the sinner. A Christian may sin alone, but because he or she participates in the body of Christ, his or her sin affects other parts of the body. Our reaction to other Christians’ sins ought not to be how we can get rid of them from the church rather we should help them who are fellow members of the body of Christ in their battle to come out of sins. This is a challenge for us in the present day church.
The phrase, ‘if a Christian is overcome by some sin,’ pictures a believer being trapped or caught by sin which literally means not a deliberate act. Whether it was deliberate or not, we should carefully and cautiously handle such cases because the way it is handled will go a long way in helping others to own up to their sins and repent of them. Burden as used in Galatians 6:2 means heavy or oppressive burdens that a believer cannot carry alone. It could be financial burdens or burden of temptations. We must help share the loads that others find too heavy to carry alone.
Do you know someone who needs help? Is there a Christian brother or sister who needs correction or encouragement? Humbly and gently reach out to that person (John 13:34–35). Don’t wait until such person comes to you, cap at hand kneeling and begging before you render help. Kindly do something for someone today as you go into the world. God will bless and reward you. Amen.
Food for Thought: 1 Thessalonians 5:14
Memory verse: Galatians 6 verse 2
Prayer: Grant me the understanding, O Lord, that I should help people in their needs especially when overtaken by temptations.
