ARE YOU ALSO LEAVING Friday
December 11, 2015
Text: John 6:60 – 69 Memory verse: v 67
Jesus
had revealed to His followers that He is the bread of life and that eating of
Him will bring eternal life (6:54 – 58). This became an offence which made some
to withdraw from following Him (6:61). The disciples acknowledged that what
Jesus taught was hard teaching – “This is
a hard saying; who can understand it?" The withdrawal of some of them
made Jesus to ask the 12 disciples if they are also leaving. Peter as the mouth
of other disciples answered on their behalf that they had made their choice and
no going back on it. They accepted these very words of Jesus that had caused
the defection as the words of eternal life.
There are many things that can make people to be offended against Jesus though no excuse is accepted by God. It may be unanswered prayers, not making progress despite faithfulness, failure in some undertakings, etc. Some have gone back from following Jesus because they have failed exams, have not secured a job or find a prospective husband/wife. This is absurd. Going away from Jesus will only compound our problems. Don’t quit at the end of the year as you are contemplating. Hold on and God will surely arise on your behalf.
Food for Thought: Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of
eternal life (John 6:68b)
Prayer: Lord, may I not go back from following you no matter the situation.
