Do Not Procrastinate: Devotion for Tuesday July 7, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Tuesday July 7, 2020
Topic: Do Not Procrastinate
Text: Joshua 1:10 – 15
In Romans 4:20, the bible recorded that Abraham did not waver or stagger at the promises of God. This means that he had no doubt about what God told him despite his physical condition and that of his wife (Romans 4:19).
In our bible reading today, Joshua said to the people immediately God had spoken to him, “Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you to possess” (Joshua 1:11b). We honour the truth of God, when we stagger not or waver at the promise of God as Abraham did. The two tribes and a half were to go over Jordan with their brethren. When God, by his providence, has given us rest, we ought to consider what service we may do to our brethren.
“The certainty that God will bestow upon his people the blessings he has promised them, does not in the least lessen the necessity of their using all appointed means to obtain them” so says Family Bible Notes. God promised to take them into the Promised Land. They don’t have to procrastinate or sit in a place for the promise to be fulfilled. They have a part to play.
Likewise, God has made several promises to us. We shouldn’t procrastinate about them by waiting for “manna to fall from heaven.” Rather we should swing into action by playing our part in that promise made by God. Remember that God promised to feed the birds of the air but He does not throw their food into their nest.
Food for Thought: What will you do to ensure that God’s promises made to you will be fulfilled?
Memory verse: Joshua 1:11
Prayer: God remove from me every form of procrastination especially in heavenly matters in Jesus name.

Obey Even When It Hurts: Devotion for Friday April 24, 20202

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Friday April 24, 2020
Topic: Obey Even When It Hurts
Text: Genesis 22:1 – 14
Abraham learnt many tough lessons about the importance of obeying God. Some of them were when he was called out of Ur; when he went to Egypt, and when he had to wait for Isaac’s birth. Initially, Abraham did not always show that he trusted or believed God; but through each test, he saw God’s willingness and ability to keep His promises.
That was the reason God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22:1-2) at an altar as a burnt sacrifice. That is the greatest gift one can offer. God did not want Isaac to die, but He wanted Abraham to sacrifice Isaac in his heart so that he could learn to trust God completely (see Hebrews 11:19). Imagine what Abraham must have felt as he walked with Isaac up the mountain, each step being torturous and leading him painfully closer to unspeakable grief agony. However Abraham obeyed, giving Isaac at his own hurt and God honoured his faith.
Obeying God may often be a struggle because it may mean giving up something that we truly want. We should not expect our obedience to God to be easy or to come naturally. Just as fire refines ore to extract precious metals, God refines us through difficult circumstances. Trust and Obey is the best way to be happy. In what ways might God be testing your faith? Are you willing to obey Him even when it will hurt you? Such obedience is what God requires from us – Obedience at all cost.
Action: As you go out today, be determined to obey God even when it hurts.
Memory verse: Hebrew 11:17
Prayer: 1. God, grant me the grant me the grace to obey you in everything even when it hurts because there is a reward at the end.
2. Pray for my wife and I as we mark our 20th Wedding Anniversary today, April 24.

Trust God Always: Devotion for Wednesday February 5, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday February 5, 2020
Topic: Trust God Always
Text: Psalm 62:8 – 12
There are times we falter in faith despite the level of our knowledge of God and spirituality. It happened to Abraham when he hearkened to the voice of his wife by going into her maid. It also happened to John the Baptist while he was in prison. He sent message to confirm from Jesus Christ if He was the Messiah or not (Matthew 11:2 – 6) despite revealing to his disciples that Jesus is the Messiah (John 1:29 – 36).
This has happened to some other men and women of God as we have it all over the scriptures. I have personally tagged myself useless but God said I am not and I will still be useful. This devotion is one of the things God directed me to start writing after that encounter.
Life usually presents its curves, bumps and pot holes on our life’s journeys. All these are aimed at slowing us down and at times we begin to doubt God and His faithfulness.
In our scriptural reading of the day, the Psalmist who had experienced God’s faithfulness urges us to trust God for some reasons. He is our refuge (62:8), all power belongs to Him (62:11) and He is merciful (62:12). Thus we should trust God to guide us when in doubt, to protect us when in danger, to supply our needs when in want, to strengthen us for every good word and work. We should trust when we can see, as well as when we are utterly in the dark.
As you go out today, trust God to provide for you according to your needs. Trust him to bring more customers to your business and to grant you favour as you go for that contract and business opportunities. The Lord, be with you!
Food for thought: Proverbs 3:5, 6
Memory verse: Psalm 62:8
Prayer: Lord, grant me stronger faith to trust you always as I go through curves of life in Jesus name.

A Place of Destiny and Fulfillment: Devotion for January 5, 2020

Devotion for Sunday January 5 2020

Topic: A Place of Destiny and Fulfillment

Text: Genesis 46:1 – 3

When Jesus told some fishermen to go follow Him, they obeyed Him and today their names rings bell in the world. Who would have known the names of Peter, Andrew, James and John if not that they obeyed the instruction to follow Jesus? There are places God have chosen to open our destinies. The promise of making Jacob great was made by God in Genesis 28:13 – 15.

God told Jacob to leave his home and travel to a strange and faraway land just the way He told Abraham. He was old, 130 years old; it was a long journey, and he was unfit to travel. However, He reassured him that He will take care of him in the journey. God fulfilled it by making Israel a great nation in Egypt. They were 75 persons that left for Egypt and came out in millions. What a mighty God we serve!

When new situations or surroundings frighten us as we have just entered a new year, we should recognize that experiencing fear is normal. However, to be paralyzed by fear is an indication that you question God’s ability to take care of you. There is a place God has chosen to bless and prosper you this year. All you need to do is ask for divine wisdom from God to get to that place of recognition and blessing. Let’s trust God to help us as we undertake various ventures this year. He will see us through and make you great.

Food for Thought: Where has God promised to make you great?

Memory verse: Genesis 46:3

Prayer: Lord, lead me to the place you have promised to make me great.

Our Works Perfect Our Faith

Devotion for Monday May 28, 2018
Topic: Our Works Perfect Our Faith
Text: James 2:19 – 24
Here in our scriptural reading for the day, James presents a proof that faith cannot exist without being active in works of righteousness. He argued that Abraham’s faith in God would have been of no avail to him, had it not been manifested by his works. It was by his works; his obedience to the commands of God that his faith was made perfect and shown to be complete because it produced its appropriate fruit. The idea of James here is that our work is a way of justifying our faith and righteousness. From James position, we can allude that our work of righteousness speaks more of our faith than our profession. There we have a binding obligation to work out our faith so that people will know us more about our faith from our works and not from our confession. This is a challenge for us in this present generation where sin and all manner of evil have become the order of the day. It is only when we establish our righteousness through godly living that we can influence our generation for good. The bible says, “For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God” – Romans 8:19. We must reveal ourselves to the world through the works (actions and words) we do. The works Abraham did by offering his only begotten son made perfect his faith. Likewise will your works make perfect your faith and it all starts from absolute obedience.
Sing A&M 225; Abu 81
Food for Thought: Allow people to know your faith through your works of charity and your obedience to God and not just your confession.
Memory verse: James 2:22
Prayer: Grant, O Lord, my God, that I will justify my faith through the way I live and my obedience to your commandments in Jesus name.

Trust In Him Always

Devotion for Monday March 19, 2018
Topic: Trust In Him Always
Text: Psalm 62:8 – 12
There are times we falter in faith despite the level of our knowledge of God and spirituality. It happened to Abraham when he harkened to the voice of his wife by going into her maid. It also happened to John the Baptist while he was in prison. He sent message to confirm from Jesus Christ if He was the Messiah or not (Matthew 11:2 – 6) despite revealing to his disciples that Jesus is the Messiah (John 1:29 – 36). This has happened to some other men and women of God as we have then all over the scriptures.
Life usually presents its curves, bumps and pot holes on our life’s journeys. It doesn’t spare anyone though the spate and degree varies. All these are aimed at slowing us down or divert our faith and at times we begin to doubt God and His faithfulness. In our bible reading of the day, the Psalmist who had experienced God’s faithfulness urges us to trust God for some reasons. He is our refuge (v8, see Psalm 18:2), all power belongs to Him (v11, see Revelation 19:1) and He is merciful (v12, see Psalm 103:8). Thus we should trust Him to guide us when we are in doubt, to protect us when we are in danger, to supply all we need when in want and to strengthen us for every good word, and work. We should trust when we can see, as well as when we are utterly in the dark.
As you go out today, trust God to meet that pressing need of yours. Trust him to bring more customers to your business and to grant you favour as you go for that contract and business opportunities. Also trust Him to grant you peaceful working environment with that your froward boss. The Lord, be with you!
Sing SS&S 804; Abu 238
Food for thought: Proverbs 3:5, 6
Memory verse: Psalm 62:8
Prayer: Lord, grant me stronger faith to trust you always as I go through curves of life in Jesus name.

There Is Always A Reward For Righteousness

Devotion for Sunday March 18, 2018
Topic: There Is Always A Reward For Righteousness
Text: Psalm 1:1 – 3
When parents are happy with their children for obeying and carrying out instructions they reward them sometimes. In like manner God is always happy when we obey His commands and He blesses us. When He told Abraham to go and sacrifice his son Isaac and he obeyed, the response of God is in Genesis 22:15 – 18. We have in this psalm a reward for doing what God wants us to do. The theme of this psalm is the permanent prosperity and happiness of the righteous, and the certain destruction of the wicked. The reward for doing what God wants is being blessed which the Psalmist likened to a tree planted by the riverside. The key to doing what God wants is to know what He wants and such knowledge come through meditating on His word constantly. If we so desire to be blessed by God, we must have regard for His word, as the rule of our actions, and the spring of our comforts; and have it in our thoughts night and day. The righteous man takes counsel from God. This is very important for all that desire to please God. How do you take the word of God? What amount of time do you give to reading, study and meditation on it? That is the key to the breakthrough you desire always.
Sing A&M 305; Abu 221
Food for Thought: The frequency and earnestness in meditating on God’s word is what ensures our growth and bring blessings upon us
Memory verse: Psalm 1:3
Prayer: Help me O Lord to earnestly and frequently meditate on your word to guarantee my blessings in Jesus name.

When God Has Something For You

Devotion for Saturday March 17, 2018
Topic: When God Has Something For You
Text: Genesis 12:1 – 3
There are processes we undergo in life. No one gets all the blessings of life in a place. This is true in all our lives endeavours. God has reasons for doing everything or issuing any instruction to us. This is so because He knows the future and will not want us to distort our relationship with Him again after we have repented. Our bible reading for the day has God’s call on Abraham. He was instructed to leave his home, his kindred to an unknown place. The reason for this instruction was for him to be in a place where He will make a change in his life and faith.
In Genesis 12:4, he did and the changes started. God gave him a new name from Abram (exalted father) to Abraham – father of multitude (Genesis 17:5), Sera to Sarah for his wife (17:6) and many others blessings that followed. Maybe these changes would have been hard for Abraham if he had remained in his birthplace. They would have ridiculed him and that was the reason God demanded that he moves to another place. There was the need to move just as we saw yesterday. It was not easy for him. He had many obstacles and oppositions but God used all to bring change in his life and posterity.
Beloved, most things we pass through in life are meant to lead us to something better in life. Joseph went through slavery to become what God spoke to him at very tender age. David had to go on exile before he ascended the throne God anointed him earlier. Hannah went through a process before she got a special child; same way for Zachariah and Elizabeth. What are you going through now that seems to have taken a lot from you? Surely it is meant to lead you into something bigger that God has in stock for you.
Sing A&M 330; Abu 112
Food for Thought: There is always light at the end of the tunnel.
Memory verse: Genesis 12:1
Prayer: God, grant that as you take me through the process of life, may it bring change that will bring me into your kingdom in Jesus name.

He Will Comfort You

Devotion for Thursday March 1, 2018
Topic: He Will Comfort You
Text: Isaiah 51:1 – 3
It is good for those privileged to be born again, to consider that they were shaped in sin. This should cause us to have low thoughts of ourselves, and high thoughts of divine grace we have received by virtue of our new birth. In our text, we are called to a steadfast faith in the Lord. If we consider our present state, we will be discouraged. For this reason, God speaking through the prophet Isaiah called on us to consider where and how we started. He also challenged us to look at the life of Abraham our father of faith and his wife Sarah how He increased them. Thus, He assured His people of His comfort in their troubled state with promise of restoration (Isaiah 51:3).
Beloved, God is a covenant keeping God. He that called us is faithful (Deuteronomy 7:9; Nehemiah 9:32). He called us for a purpose which amongst them is to increase and comfort us. In this world, we are faced with so many challenges of life like sickness (some protracted), sever wants, spiritual battles and many more. All these are what we face because we are still in the world. However, there is a place God has prepared for us that is void of all this challenges. In the interim however, He has assures us of His comfort (Psalm 102:13; Isaiah 40:1; 51:12; 52:9 – 10).
What do you lacking now that everything seem to be like desert to you? He will make all to flourish again like the Garden of Eden be it your health, finances, marriage, studies, etc. In this new month, hold on to Him.
Sing SS&S 530
Food for Thought: When God says something, He performs it. Keep believing for He will never fail
Memory verse: Isaiah 51:3
Prayer: Lord, send your comfort to me in my troubled situations.

Do Not Fear To Go To Egypt

Devotion for Sunday January 28, 2018
Topic: Do Not Fear To Go To Egypt
Text: Genesis 46:1 – 3
There are places God has chosen to open His promises to us and bless us. The promise of making Jacob great was made by God in Genesis 28:13 – 15. God saw that the promise could only be fulfilled when he leaves Beersheba thus He encouraged him to leave for Egypt to also fulfill His word to Abraham (Genesis 15:3). God told Jacob to leave his home and travel to a strange and faraway land.
At about 130 years old; it was a long journey, and he was unfit to travel that far. However, God reassured him by promising to go with him and take care of him. He fulfilled it by making Israel a great nation in Egypt. They were 75 persons that left for Egypt and came out in millions. What a mighty God we serve!
When new situations or surroundings frighten us, we should recognize that experiencing fear is normal. However, to be paralyzed by fear is an indication that we are questioning God’s ability to take care of us. There is a place God has made chosen to bless and prosper you this year. At His command, move on to that place. All you need to do is ask for divine wisdom from God to get to that place of recognition and blessing. We should trust God to help us as we undertake various ventures this year. He will see us through. Don’t be afraid. Move on and He will make you great.
Sing SS&S 561; Abu 188
Food for Thought: Where has God promised to make you great?
Memory verse: Genesis 46:3
Prayer: Lord, lead me to the place you have promised to make me great.

Bear Worthy Fruits

Devotion for Tuesday January 2, 2018
Topic: Bear worthy fruits
Text: Luke 3:7 – 9
John the Baptist in his preaching called the people to repentance and also admonished them to bear fruit worthy of repentance. John stated that the time has come when Abraham's seed shall no longer be reckoned by outward descent, but by character. Therefore, they should change their character and ways of living to conform to what they profess that implies having the character and doing the works of Abraham. What John the Baptist meant is that there should be a change of character that should led to a change of situation. Many people have kept doing same thing over and again expecting different results that can never be. You cannot hold on to one methodology of doing something and expect to get good results.
What are the ways you have been serving God, doing your business or relating with people that has not yielded the desired fruit? You need to change your method. On the other hand, we should show the reality of our repentance by forsaking our sins and obeying the commands of God. In order that repentance may be shown to be sincere, it must produce good works. This is one way we can get God’s approval and blessings. Don’t hope to get God’s approval when you are still living in sin. Sing A&M 325
Food for Thought: The change of life is the proof of the change of heart.
Memory verse: Matthew 3:8
Prayer: Almighty God, grant me a change of heart and life that will reflect the confession I make as a Christian in Jesus name. Amen.

How To Be Privy To God’s Secret

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday July 19, 2017
Topic: How To Be Privy To God’s Secret
Text: Genesis 18:17
Friends and loved ones share secrets. It takes people who have given themselves to each other to know the deep things about one another. You cannot meet someone for the first time and start telling the person about your life and some secrets about yourself. The intimacy would have grown or developed before you open up.
David and Jonathan son of Saul were two great friends (1 Samuel 18:1). Jonathan revealed his father’s plan to kill David to him (1 Samuel 19:2) because they were true friends.
Abraham found favour in the eyes of God and their friendship grew in lips and bounds. God spoke with him and always direct him on what to do. God didn’t want to hide anything from Abraham because he had endeared himself to Him for some reasons.
(1) Abraham had a covenant with God (Genesis 17:2)
(2) Abraham obeyed God and kept to the terms of the covenant (Hebrews 11:8)
(3) God saw the faithfulness of his heart
(4) God saw that Abraham would certainly pass on to his generations unborn the mysteries of God (Genesis 18:17)
God charged us in Jeremiah 33:3 to call to Him and He will reveal thing we do not know. God can reveal His secrets to s when we are in right relationship with Him. What is your relationship with God? Do you obey His words and faithfully walk with Him? To be privy of heaven’s decision and plans, you should befriend God, having constant fellowship with Him.
Food For Thought: Those who live in communion with God will always have insight into the present and future.
Memory verse: Genesis 18:17
Prayer: Lord God, draw me closer and closer to yourself daily and always reveal to me your will for my life in Jesus name.

Obeying God Courageously

Synopsis of My Sermon at Cathedral Church of St. Peter Asaba today 16th July, 2017
Topic: Obeying God Courageously
Text: Act 5: 26 – 29
Food for Thought: A true disciple of Christ, in all things denies his own will, however pleasing, and does the will of God, however painful.
Introduction: Obedience is doing what God says not counting the cost or implications. It was Emmons in PowerBible Online that said, “Obedience to God is the most infallible evidence of sincere and supreme love for him.” We have so many passages in the scriptures of men and women that were courageous in obeying God. Abraham (Genesis 22:1 – 3), Daniel and 3 Hebrew friends, Mary, mother of Jesus and the Apostles as we have in Acts 5:17 – 32 as examples.
Development: In our text is a challenging story for Christians of today. Since I became a Christian, I have never seen Christians as fearful as what we have in this decade. I always wonder where we have kept Christ our Saviour. The Apostles were remanded in prison for preaching and doing miracles in the name of Jesus. But an angel of God opened the prison and brought them out with the command to go back and continue preaching. They obeyed God’s instruction through the angel and went back to preach. If it were you and I of this generation, we will not go back again. These Apostles knew there was danger in facing the Chief priest and Sadducees that crucified Jesus Christ. If they could arrest and crucified Jesus, their case would have been a small one but that didn’t deter them. We know how the story ended.
Ø  It takes faith to obey God courageously as we have in the case of these Apostles, Abraham, Daniel, etc. This implies that courageous obedience is the fruit of faith. If your faith is not strong you cannot obey God fully and courageously. An example of this is in payment of tithe. If you don’t have faith, you won’t believe that your salary will be enough for you and your family for the month.
Ø  Courageous obedience goes with conflicts, trials and temptations. We know the case of Job that it was his resolve to obey God that made Satan to afflict him with sickness. We know what the resolve of Meshach, Shadrach and Abednego led to. What of Daniel, Jeremiah and others? That we have conflicts, temptations and trials going with courageous obedience doesn’t mean that we should be scare of obeying God.
Ø  Courageous obedience attracts God’s intervention and blessings. We saw it in the case of Abraham, Jeremiah, Daniel, Meshach, Shadrach and Abednego, and the Apostles. In the case of Abraham, God said, "By myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son - blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.” Note also the aftermath of the deliverance of Daniel from Lion’s den, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego from the burning furnace. God does not only intervene, He also blesses us when we obey Him courageously.
Application: Beloved, obedience to God is a command. Seneca Snr says, “We are born subjects and to obey God is perfect liberty. He that does this shall be free, safe and happy.” You can only find peace and be at liberty when you courageously obey and serve God. It is also a way to reach our desired goals in life. Today, many people are living in fear and can notice that in their prayers which are targeted against the enemies instead of asking for the blessings of God. Look at the example of the apostles! They didn’t begin to bind the powers of Chief Priest and Sadducees rather they asked for more boldness to preach the gospel.
Conclusion: Fear is evidence of love for the things of the world while courageous obedience is an evidence of a crucified life. Have you been crucified with Christ? If yes, continue to live for him without counting the cost or implications. If not, know that you are in danger and needs repentance. Today, as you accept Jesus into your life as Lord and Saviour, He will grant you the courage to live for Him and to obey Him.
Let us pray: Thank God for His word. If you are here and you haven’t made Jesus your Lord and Saviour, pray and ask God to forgive you, accept Him into your life and ask Him to grant you the grace to live for and obey Him courageously henceforth. If you have been obeying God, ask for grace to continue to obey Him.
NB: DEAR READER, IF YOU HAVE NOT GIVEN YOUR LIFE TO CHRIST AND YOU ARE TOUCHED TO DO SO NOW, SAY THIS PRAYER:
Lord God, I come to you this day. I have been living in sin but your word has touched my heart. I repent of my sin. I acknowledge that I am responsible for my sinfulness. Have mercy upon me and forgive all my sins. Today, I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Lord Jesus Christ, forgive my sins and blot out my name from the book of death and write my name in the life. Grant me the grace I need to live for you especially the grace to obey courageously. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour. Amen.
You can reach me for counseling and prayers on this place or write to me on morgantabu@yahoo.co.uk and I will arrange a chat with you. God bless you and have a great week.

He Is Abundantly Able

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Monday June 5, 2017
Topic: He Is Abundantly Able
Text: Romans 4:21
“God is able, abundantly able to deliver and to save those who trust in Him,” so says a song writer. God is able to perform what He has said. He fulfilled the promises He made in the scriptures. Where He did not fulfil it, may be the person to receive it compromised or failed on his part as in the case of Eli (1 Sam. 2:30). As we read yesterday, Abraham didn’t waver because of his strong belief that God is able to fulfil His promises (Romans 4:21). He was firmly persuaded of God's ability to fulfil His promises. Do you easily shake when you come to the curves of life? Abraham was certain that God not only could, but would do what He promised. We should know that this was not the only time Abraham clearly showed this kind of confidence in God. His faith was equally implicit and strong when God commanded him to go and sacrifice his promised son (Hebrews 11:19). Beloved of Christ, God is able to perform what He promised (Luke 1:37). What is that He cannot do? What you can achieve depends on what you believe. Do you actually believe God for what you are asking from Him? You should be fully persuaded that God is able to do it. It may have taken a lot of time but it is never late with God. You should live by believing in God and not by debating or arguing about His ability because with Him, all things are possible. Debating whether God can do it or not is a mark of unbelief. Just trust God for He would do it for you (Ps 4:5; 9:10 and 25:2).
Food for Thought: All we have seen, read and heard are enough to persuade us that God can do that which we ask of Him.
Memory verse: Romans 4 verse 21

Prayer: God, grant me an implicit faith to trust you for all my needs.

The Danger In Doubting God's Word

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Sunday May 28, 2017
Topic: The Danger In Doubting God’s Word
Text: 2 Kings 7:1 – 2
When Angel Gabriel gave God’s message to Zachariah that his wife Elizabeth will give birth to a son they will call John, he doubted the message because he and his wife were aged, and he was punished. God did not spare him because he was a priest. He became dumb till God fulfilled what he doubted (Luke 1:18–20; 1:62–64). Doubt and faithlessness has consequences on our lives as they deny us most of the good things that should have come our way.
The statement of the officer in our text was an expression of unbelief, for which Elisha immediately announced that he should be excluded from a share in the coming plenty. It is unlikely that this prediction will be fulfilled, that the officer thought God must pour out wheat and barley from heaven before it could have a literal accomplishment. The way this man was cut off from this blessing is the most unfortunate thing that can happen to any man. He saw but didn’t partake of it.
Do you doubt God’s promises about getting married, getting a good job, admission, children, etc? Repent today before God will punish you for doubting. Rom. 4:17–22 is clear evidence that Abraham did not waver in faith. Trust God as Abraham did. There are many requests we make and fail to receive the answer not because God is not willing to answer us but because of our doubt and unbelief. No wonder the opinion of James in James 1:6. Doubt can bring fear and make us undermine the potentials in us. Again, we should be mindful of saying negative things about ourselves and others as words are living being.
Food for Thought: Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we might win by fearing to attempt – William Shakespeare.
Memory verse: 2 Kings 7 verse 2b

Prayer: God, remove fear and doubt in me, and strengthen my faith in Jesus name.

The Rich Man And Lazarus

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday May 24, 2017
Topic: The Rich Man And Lazarus
Text: Luke 16:19 – 31
There are so many inspiring lessons for us in this story. One mistake people make in life is to think that money is everything. It is not so. Again, wealth is not a perimeter to judge God’s blessings and favour. The Pharisees considered wealth to be a proof of a person’s righteousness but Jesus shocked them with this story in which a diseased beggar was rewarded and a rich man was punished. The rich man did not go to hell because of his wealth but because he was selfish, refusing to feed Lazarus, take him in, or care for him. The rich man was hard-hearted in spite of his great blessings.
The amount of money we have is not as important as the way we use it. What is your attitude toward your money and possessions? Do you hoard them selfishly, or do you use them to help others? There is something worth noting in Luke 16:22. Lazarus died and was carried by angels to Abraham’s bosom while the rich man was buried. This shows that no amount of burial changes the final destination of man.
What determines our final destination is the way we live when we are alive. Therefore beware of the way you live and use your wealth. The rich man thought that his five brothers would surely believe a messenger who had been raised from the dead. But Abraham asserted that if they did not believe Moses and the prophets, who spoke constantly of caring for the poor, not even a resurrection would convince them. Are you like this rich man? Don’t wait for the messenger from the dead. Repent now and accept Jesus as your Saviour.
Food for Thought: What is your attitude towards your money and possessions?
Memory verse: Luke 16 verse 22
Prayer: Lord God, help me to accept your message of salvation now and not to wait for a message or messenger from the dead in Jesus name.

Jacob Prevailed

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Saturday February 18, 2017
Topic: Jacob Prevailed
Text: Genesis 32:24 – 28
Struggle is part of human existence. Struggle (for something) is to try very hard to do something when it is difficult or when there are lots of problems.
Jacob struggled in life perhaps because of the covenant of God to Abraham that had to be fulfilled. From birth Jacob struggled (Genesis 25:21). He “took hold of” (possessions of others) – his brother’s birthright (Genesis 25:29-34), his father’s blessing (Genesis 27:1-29), and his father-in-law’s flocks and herds (Genesis 30:22-43; 31:1) just to make sure that he succeeded in life. He had an encounter with God at Haran were God assured him of His presence and fulfilment of the covenant (Genesis 28:10-22).
Though God would have fulfilled his covenant without Jacob struggling but the lesson here is that we should not give up in our heavenly race. All we need to do is to persist against all opposition so as to obtain the crown at the end. Don’t give up in the struggle to doing the will of God. His promise and covenant are sure and will surely be fulfilled in your life.
At the ford of Jabbok, Jacob was alone (Genesis 32:24). At night, he was engaged in a wrestling with angel of God. In the process the socket of Jacob’s hips was put out of joint as he struggled with this mysterious stranger, but he refused to release his grip on him until he was given a blessing. He was unrelenting and his struggling earned him a new name (Israel). As you struggle with God through your prayer and faith, it’s my prayer that it will lead to irrevocable blessings and prevailing testimonies in Jesus name. Amen.
Food for Thought: Fervency and perseverance in prayer greatly influence God to act in our favour.
Memory verse: Genesis 32 verse 28 - Then he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
Prayer: Lord, grant me the grace to always struggle and prevail in prayers.

When There Is Famine

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Thursday January 12, 2017
Topic: When There Is Famine
Text: Ruth 1:1
The story of Ruth takes place sometime during the period of the rule of the judges. These were dark days for Israel, when the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes (Judg. 17:6; 21:25). Such period is usually challenging to the faith of those who believe in God. It takes grit and determination to persist in the faith is such period.
Ruth, who is the main person spoken of in this book was subject to many afflictions and yet eventually, God gave her good and joyful offspring, teaching us to abide with patience till God delivers us out of troubles. Are you undergoing an affliction that has shaken your faith to its foundation? Have people concluded that your case is over and there is no more hope for you? Let this story of Ruth be a great source of encouragement for you.
We depend on God for the comforts of this life, as well as the life to come; and without His blessing, notwithstanding all human efforts, the earth would never yield a harvest. This was the case of Israel in the time of Elimelech and Naomi. This resulted to famine in the land and Elimelech took his family to Moab. Abraham did it by going to Egypt and Isaac wanted to do it too but God stopped him.
Most times, when there is famine in the land, it is usually the consequences of our sin. Running away from the land will not be the best. The first step is to seek the face of God in repentance. The famine some of us are facing now maybe sickness, no job, unfavourable business, failure in exams, problems in your marriage, delayed conception, etc. Running away as Elimelech did is not always the solution.
Some people ran away from their land because of famine, but not all have succeeded. There were people who stayed back and God remembered them. We should always seek the face of God when we are confronted with problems or else we will take decisions that might affect us adversely.
Food for Thought: Psalm 37:19
Memory verse: Ruth 1 verse 1 - In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land, and a man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons.
Prayer: Read Psalm 33:18 – 22 and use it to pray.
