What Is Your Request? Devotion for Thursday March 26, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Thursday March 26, 2020
Topic: What Is Your Request?
Text: Esther 5: 1 – 8
Esther’s courageous act is a model for us to follow in approaching a difficult or dangerous task. Like Esther, we can: (1) calculate the cost: Esther realized her life was at stake when she said “If perish, I perish” Esther 4:16. (2) Set priorities: She believed that the safety of the Jewish race was more important than her life. (3) Prepare: She gathered support and fasted. (4) Determine a course of action and move ahead boldly: She didn’t think too long about it, allowing the interlude to lessen her commitment to what she had to do.
Do you have to face a hostile audience, confront a friend on a delicate subject, or talk to your family about changes to be made? Rather than dreading difficult situations or putting them off, take action with confidence by following Esther’s inspiring example.
It was Esther’s courageous move that led to the question which is our topic for the day. The king noticed that something led Esther to risk her life and thus he raised the question and she demanded a dinner with the king and Haman. If God can grant Esther such favour before men how much more when He is involved (compare Matthew 7:11)?
Beloved, what is your request? Is it money for rents and bills? Is it fruit of the womb? Is it a job? Just follow Esther’s model and God will move in your favour.
Food for Thought: God issued us a blank cheque in Matthew 7:7. How do you make good use of it?
Memory verse: Esther 5:3
Prayer: Make your request known to God bearing in mind Numbers 14:28 and Matthew 7:7

Are You Prepared For Your Death? Devotion for Wednesday August 14, 2019

Devotion for Wednesday August 14, 2019
Topic: Are You Prepared For Your Death?
Text: Hebrew 9:27 – 28
The issue of death was decreed by God when Man fell off His glory. So death coming to Man is not a strange thing. Death is a passage to eternity.
Our place of eternity is determined by the way we live our lives on earth before we die. Jesus taught that there is eternity which comprises of eternal life or eternal condemnation (John 5:27 – 29).  At death, every man’s final state is determined.
The fixed order for all men is to die once, and to be judged after death. When they die, finality is tamped on their work on earth. The death is the result of this appointment (Genesis 3:9). The cause of the appointment is sin (Romans 6:23) and the appointment with death is for all men whether godly or ungodly.
How are you preparing for your death? Robin Sharma said in his book, WHO WILL CRY WHEN YOU DIE that if someone desire to live well, he should often organize his funeral. Robin Sharma’s idea will certainly help us to number our days and live well as the Psalmist asserted in Psalm 90:12. Do you live your life as if death and judgement will never come? Do you oppress people because you feel they are inconsequential?
The judgement awaiting us after death will be based on the way we live our lives here on earth (John 5:29). There is need to prepare yourself for death on daily basis because it can come at any time and any age. Start the preparation now because it will determine where you will spend your eternity.
Food for Thought: “Death to the Christian is the funeral of all his sorrows and evils and the resurrection of all his joys” – John H. Aughey
Memory verse: Psalm 90:12
Prayer: Lord, may I daily prepare myself for my death and judgement so as to escape eternal condemnation in Jesus name!

Prepare For Your 2018

Devotion for Monday January 1, 2018
Topic: Prepare For Your 2018
Text: Luke 3:1 – 6
Welcome to the year 2018. Do you know that most people usually start
their year unprepared? For this reason our devotions for the first two weeks are on what we can do to have a rewarding year. In our bible reading, John the Baptist as the forerunner of Jesus Christ called on the people of Judea to prepare the way for the Lord to manifest Himself for them. This implies that people who are expecting the Messiah should do something so that the Messiah will fulfill His promises. They were expected to remove every hindrance to His manifestation.
At the beginning of the year like this, we should take a stock of how we lived in the previous year, observing where we failed and where we did well. Those areas we didn’t do well should be worked on. Again, there are things that hinder the manifestation of Christ in our lives and families. We might have indulged in one sin or another thus distorting our relationship with God. We should amend our ways and live rightly so that our relationship with God will be smooth.
What are those valleys to be filled and those mountains and hills that we ought to bring low; the crooked places to be made straight and the rough ways to be made smooth so that we can see the salvation, deliverance and blessings of God in our lives this year? Think about them as you Sing SS&S 363
Food for Thought: What do you think will hinder the manifestation of God’s salvation and blessings in your life this year?
Memory verse: Isaiah 40:3
Prayer: God, grant me the grace to prepare my heart for you to dwell in this year and always in Jesus name.

A Voice Crying In The Wilderness

Devotion for Monday August 14, 2017
Topic: A Voice Crying In The Wilderness
Text: Isaiah 40:3 – 8
Preparation matters so much in everything we do and hope to be successful therein; be it our personal businesses and endeavours or in the things of God. When we prepare ourselves before embarking on any project, it helps to avoid lapses, makes us more efficient and productive. This chapter of Isaiah is titled ‘Comfort for my people.’ It speaks about the set time to favour Zion which demands that the people of God must be prepared through repentance and faith. Our text is a call for preparation for what the Lord will do in Zion (Isaiah 40:4 and 5).
The way of the Lord is prepared through:
1) Repentance from sin; that was what John the Baptist preached to all Judah and Jerusalem (Matthew 3:1 – 6) and thereby made ready a people prepared for the Lord (Luke 1:17).
2) Confidence in the word of the Lord and not in any creature. The mouth of the Lord has spoken it; the voice as this further to cry he that has ears to hear let him hears it. The word of our God shall stand forever (Isaiah 40:8, compare 1 Peter 1:25).
How are you preparing for the return of Jesus Christ? If there is a revival programme or crusade, how do you prepare for it? A prepared heart will always meet God’s blessings in any personal or church programme, crusade or revival services. Have you repented? Remember the warning of John the Baptist when the Pharisees and Sadducees came to him in Matthew 3:7 – 12. Do not be complacent that you were born into the church or you can read and preach the bible. It is better to search yourself today and start preparing now before it will be too late. Jesus Christ is coming very soon.
Food for thought: “Before anything else, preparation is the key to success” – Alexander Graham Bell.
Memory verse: Mark 1:3
Prayer: Help me O Lord, my God to prepare the way for you to meet me always and for your return in Jesus name.
