Ask Me And I Will Tell You

Devotion for Tuesday January 16, 2018
Topic: Ask Me And I Will Tell You
Text: Jeremiah 33:1 – 5
God is so loving and merciful. He knows how best we can live and serve Him better. He doesn’t want to wander aimlessly in the dark. He is the light and wants us to be and walk in the light too. Whatever will bring doubt in us and make us afraid, He will want to eliminate such. Hence, His words form the topic for the day. Life is full of uncertainties. Even this day, we are not sure of what will happen in the next hour. Because of such uncertainties, God calls on us in our bible reading for the day to ask and He will tell us what lies ahead, how best to handle issues, the ways to attain success and the best way to serve Him and humanity. Jesus Christ also gave same assurance in Matthew 7:7. Beloved, do you know what lies ahead of you this year? What do you think will bring success and progress for you? How best do you think you can serve God? How do you want to handle that troublesome
neighbour? If really you don’t have answers to these and many more questions agitating your mind, then you should ask God to tell you. Nothing takes God unawares. He knows your tomorrow and what it holds for you. He is in the right position to advice you. Remember that he who asks for direction never misses his way. Ask God for direction on ways to go, how to do things today and all the days of your life, and you will always meet with progress and success. Sing SS&S 319; Abu 249
Food for Thought: Someone who asks questions never misses his way
Memory verse: Jeremiah 33:3
Prayer: Grant, O God that I will always seek your counsel whenever I am confused or in doubt in Jesus name. Amen.

Best Ways To Bear Worthy Fruits

Devotion for Wednesday January 3, 2018
Topic: Best Ways To Bear Worthy Fruits
Text: Luke 3:10 – 14
The question the people of Jerusalem, all Judea, and the entire region around the Jordan asked John is what all meaningful Christians should ask God at the beginning of the year like this which is "what shall we do then?" The question they asked John is similar to what we have in Acts 2:37. John had to enumerate some of the areas people of diverse professions commit sin against God and humanity. He mentioned acts of charity (Kindness to the needy), honesty and sincerity among tax collectors in collecting taxes. He also charged soldiers to stop intimidating people or accusing them falsely, and to be contented with their wages. A closer look at John’s answers in Luke 3:11 – 14 gives a clear picture of our present day society. Can you do a comparison with your society? Some people have decided to be doing these and many other crimes despite the word of God they preach and hear. Their reasons are that a labourer deserves his wages and their salaries have not been paid. Beloved, you have no excuse to extort money from people or falsify scales to make gains. These are attributes of unbelievers. It should not be seen or heard among believers. If you had been in it, repent today. God expects us to bear good fruits for Him. We can only do it through righteousness and not through deceit if we hope to benefit from His blessings for us. Sing A&M 361; Abu 128
Food for Thought: One of the first demands of religion is to be good and it is the best way to show that our repentance is not feigned.
Memory verse: 1 John 3:17
Prayer: Lord God, grant that I will bear fruits worthy of my repentance in Jesus name. Amen

IT PAYS TO BE CHARITABLE (1): Devotion for Monday September 26, 2016

IT PAYS TO BE CHARITABLE (1): Devotion for Monday September 26, 2016
Text: Acts 9:36 – 43                          Memory verse: v 40
It pays to be charitable because that is the best way to serve God and humanity. This was the emphasis of Jesus Christ in Matt 25:31–46. The testimony of Tabitha (Dorcas) here is challenging. Acts 9:36 says, “At Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did.” Christians, who have not property to give in charity, may yet be able to do acts of charity; working with their hands, or walking with their feet, for the good of others. We should understand that our works of charity will definitely praise us. People will acknowledge what we do and sometimes act in our favour as these people did for Dorcas. We shouldn’t be ungrateful when we receive kindness from people.
While we live upon the fullness of Christ for our whole salvation, we should desire to be full of good works, for the honour of His name, and for the benefit of His saints as mark of gratitude for His mercies. This is what Sir Thomas Browne posited when he said, “Be charitable before wealth makes you covetous.” Such characters as Dorcas are useful where they dwell, as showing the excellence of the word of truth by their lives. Are you one of them?
Food for Thought: “Nothing will make us so charitable and tender to the fault of others, as, by self examination, thoroughly to know our own” Francis FeNelon.

Prayer: Lord, teach me acts of charity so I will never close my eyes to the needs of people around me in Jesus name.

USE EVERY OPPORTUNITY FOR GOD: Devotion for Sunday May 29 , 2015

USE EVERY OPPORTUNITY FOR GOD: Devotion for Sunday May 29, 2016

Text: 2 Kings 5:2 – 3        Memory verse: v 3

When Paul and Silas were jailed for preaching the gospel, they were not deterred. Right there inside the prison cell, they were singing to God, using the very opportunity they had to glorify God. The result was unprecedented as souls were won for Christ. In our text for today, we saw how this young girl, a captive from Israel, used the opportunity to tell her captors that there is a God in Israel who is Almighty, who can heal her master. She didn’t nurse grudges that she has been deprived of parental love and care by her captors. She was in a foreign land proclaiming God. This little maid, though only a girl, could give an account of the famous prophet the Israelites had among them. Children should be told early enough of the wondrous works of God, that, wherever they go, they may talk of them. How much do you tell your children about God?

Every day, we have opportunities to serve God and humanity, and to preach the gospel of repentance, peace and love to people. There are pulpits everywhere which we can use to teach the word of God. Daily we have opportunity to show kindness to people. How much do we utilise these opportunities in our schools, offices, business premises, as we commute, etc? God has sent you to that school, that office, that neighbourhood at a time like this for a purpose. God can use you to spread His word. Look for opportunities to tell others what God can do. There’s no telling who will hear your message and benefit! Do so because you will account for it someday.

Action: As you go out today, ensure you use the opportunity you have to show kindness, preach the word of God and encourage someone.

Prayer: Lord, may I use every opportunity I have to do good unto people and preach your gospel in Jesus name.

JESUS HEALED THEM: Devotion for Sunday September 27, 2015

JESUS HEALED THEM              Sunday September 27, 2015

Text: Matthew 12:14 – 21     Memory verse: v 15

The Pharisees agreed to find some accusation against Jesus that He might be condemned to death. Aware of their plans, as His time was not come, He retired from that place. Despite His withdrawal, many people still followed Him and He healed them. He didn’t cast away people following due to the plans of the Pharisees. He still went ahead to do the work for which He came into this world. Jesus also warned them not to say who He was. Jesus did not want people coming to Him for the wrong reasons.

We shouldn’t be deterred by oppositions in doing what will benefit humanity and glorify God. Of a truth, we will have opposition in the world but that should not be enough reason to stay the work of God. Are you sick, believe God for a miracle. He will also heal you as you go to Him by faith.

Food for Thought: Mark 1:41

Prayer: Lord, heal me of every physical and spiritual problem in Jesus name.
