YOU HAVE FOUNTAIN OF LIFE: Devotion for Saturday December 5, 2015

YOU HAVE FOUNTAIN OF LIFE: Devotion for Saturday December 5, 2015

Text: Psalm 36:5 – 12  Memory verse: v 9

The glorious perfections of God infinitely surpass everything in nature; and are a sure foundation of confidence to all who trust in Him. Indeed, God is the author of life, and all its blessings flow from Him. His righteousness is like mountains which is steadfast and immoveable: eminent and conspicuous to all men. From the Lord, as from an independent self sufficient spring, all creature life proceeds, by Him is sustained, through Him alone can it be perfected.  Life is in the creature, but the fountain of it is only in the Creator (36:9). Our life depends on God no matter what we think.

‘Fountain of life’ is a vivid image of fresh, cleansing water that gives life to the spiritually thirsty. This same picture is used in Jeremiah 2:13, where God is called the ‘fountain of living water.’ Jesus spoke of himself as living water that could quench thirst forever and give eternal life (John 4:14). Jesus is our source of life which means we can’t do without Him (John 15:5). How often do you go to your fountain? Do you depend on Him or yourself?

Food for Thought: How important is your fountain to you?

Prayer: May, I find eternal life in you as my fountain, O Lord.

FOUNTAIN OF WATER: Devotion for Thursday November 26, 2015

FOUNTAIN OF WATER     Thursday November 26, 2015

Text: John 4:10 – 15             Memory verse: v 14

The woman was ignorant of the gift God had for her – the gift of life, represented by living water and she did not know the giver, Jesus the Messiah. Jesus makes an extraordinary offer to this woman with living water that would quench her thirst forever. The offer Jesus made raised some questions in the mind of this woman just as Nicodemus was confused when he came to Jesus in the previous chapter (John 3:1 – 10).

The water Jesus offers takes away thirst altogether. Jesus’ water continually satisfies the desire for God’s presence because it becomes a perpetual spring within believers, giving them eternal life. This gift that Jesus gives, the perpetual spring, suggests the availability, accessibility, and abundance of the divine life for believers. Do you have that fountain of eternal life in you? It is available and accessible. Go for it if you don’t have it.

Food for Thought: John 7:38

Prayer: Lord, give me the living water so I will not thirst again.
