Devotion for Thursday May 28, 2020

Topic: Your Diligence Will Sort You Out (1)        

Text: Genesis 39:1 – 6                                   

Beloved, our enemies may strip us of outward distinctions and ornaments; but wisdom and grace cannot be taken from us. The enemies may separate us from friends, relatives, and country; but they cannot take from us the presence of the Lord. They may shut us from outward blessings, rob us of liberty, and confine us in dungeons; but they cannot shut us out from communion with God, from the throne of grace, or take from us the blessings of salvation (Genesis 37:31 – 36).

Have your enemies robbed you of your distinction? Never mind, God’s presence, favour is still with you and that will make the difference in your life. Just be diligent and leave the rest for God. At the appropriate time, His grace will work out your salvation and deliverance.

Joseph was blessed and God’s presence was with him even in the house of slavery. He was diligent not minding what he had passed through. This singled him out in the house of Potiphar. It was Joseph diligence that made him a sort out in another country where he was a mere slave.

Many of us usually complain about our environment not being conducive enough to practice our Christian faith. We complain about the people we work with, our boss, our neighbourhood, our pastor, our Bible study leader, etc, thus using such as excuse to fail in our duties. Thus many have left their God-given talent because they see everything around them as not conducive.

Joseph has proved to us that we can thrive more in an environment that may not be conducive. Daniel and his Hebrew brethren have also proved to us that we can thrive in an environment that may seem not to be conducive. Arise, O Child of God! God is with you in that environment. Shine for Him!

Food for Thought: Our diligence is noticed and appreciated when we practice it in environment that seems not to be conducive.

Prayer: Lord God, help me to be diligent no matter where I may be because that is the only way I will be sought out by you and men in Jesus name.

Text: Genesis 39:1 – 6

Beloved in Christ, I want you to understand that our enemies may strip us of outward distinctions and ornaments; but wisdom and grace cannot and will never be taken from us. Again, they may separate us from friends, relatives, and country; but they cannot separate or take from us the presence of the Lord. They may shut us from outward blessings, rob us of liberty, and confine us in dungeons; but they cannot shut us out from communion with God, from the throne of grace, or take from us the blessings of salvation.

The above was the true case of Joseph as we have in Genesis 37:31 – 36. Have your enemies robbed you of your distinction, denied you your rights and love of loved ones? Never mind, God’s presence, favour is still with you and that will make the difference in your life. Just be diligent and remain so.

God had blessed Joseph and His presence was with him in a foreign land and even in the house of slavery. He remained diligent not minding what he had passed through. He never compromised his diligence. This singled him out in the house of Potiphar. Joseph’s diligence made him a sought out in another country where he was a slave.

Many have left their God-given talent because they feel all around them are not conducive and thus they have failed in their lives’ endeavours. Joseph proved to us that we can thrive more in an environment that may not be conducive. Arise, O child of God! God is with you in that environment. Shine for Him!

Topic: Every Gift And Blessing From God Has A Price Tag

Text: Genesis 39:7 – 19

It is never a mistake that God made some people beautiful or handsome. The way some people abuse these blessings and gifts, gives me cause for concern. God has never made mistake in blessing us. If we abuse our gifts, we will pay dearly for it. Our beauty, blessings and gifts are snare to us because they will either make or mar us. It forbids pride in it, and requires constant watchfulness against the temptation that attends it. 

On the other hand, we should have full control over our eyes, lest they infect our hearts. Potiphar’s wife couldn’t set off her eyes from Joseph in her husband’s house, lusting after him (Genesis 39:7). She became a snare for Joseph because he was handsome and a young man of honesty and integrity. When Joseph refused to consent to her request, she framed-up Joseph and he was subsequently imprisoned. The frame up and imprisonment was the price Joseph paid for the gift God gave to him. 

Many people have paid similar prices. Some fell into the hands of the devil and his agents. Some after the fall could not even summon courage to rise again. There is nobody gifted by God in terms of beauty, handsomeness, intelligence or talent that hasn’t been tempted or that will not be tempted. What matters is your reaction when temptations come. Will you yield to their temptation because you want to avoid going to prison or being punished? If you have framed up or betrayed someone, God requires you to go and make necessary restitution. Despite the price Joseph paid, God was with him and he was loved and privileged above all others in the prison. Sing SS&S 235; Abu 183

Food for Thought: Every gift and blessings from God has a price tag.

Prayer: Grant me the grace I need O God, never to abuse your gift upon my life or a stumbling block to other people because of their gifts.
