Can God Vouch for You? Devotion for Saturday March 21, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Saturday March 21, 2020
Topic: Can God Vouch for You?
Text: Job 1:6 – 12
If you are a Christian and God cannot be vouched for you, then your Christianity is a deceit. Before God can vouch for you as His child, you must have a constant fellowship with Him. He must see a desire for holiness and righteousness in your life.
We have in our text the story of how Satan came into the gathering of believers. His aim and target was Job. God knew him and all his thoughts and was quick to point it out to him. What does this Omniscience nature of God teach us about the ability of God to meet our needs?
Satan asserted that the blessings of God and hedge around Job are the reasons Job was serving Him (v10 & 11). Again God was quick to vouch for Job as we have in verse 8 and gave Satan the permission to touch his properties and not his soul (v12).
God confidently pointed out the allegiance of his servant Job to Him. Satan’s response to God shows that he had scrutinised Job carefully. Do you know that Satan watches every moment of your life to find fault on how to accuse or attack you? Satan watches every Christian in order to find their weaknesses and turn them against God. However, can God vouch for you that you are not compromising, pretending, going to church but still loves sin and living in it, pompous and proud? Search yourself now!
Food for Thought: What can God say today about your Christianity?
Memory verse: v 8
Prayer: Make me faithful servant that you can vouch for, O Lord my God.

Those God Chooses: Devotion for Tuesday March 3, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Tuesday March 3, 2020
Topic: Those God Chooses
Text: 1 Corinthians 1:17 – 31
God’s wisdom in dealing with Man is unfathomable and beyond human understanding. How can he choose fishermen to become bearers of His gospel? Why did He wait for Sarah to reach 90 years before blessing her with a child when her mates were already great grandmothers? Indeed God chooses the foolish things to shame our assumed wisdom because of what is stated in verses 19 and 29. See Job 5:12-13; Isaiah 29:14; 55:8 & 9.
Paul declared that no amount of human knowledge can replace or bypass Christ’s work on the cross. If it could, Christ would be accessible to the intellectually gifted and well educated only and not to ordinary people or to children. Hence God’s wisdom of salvation far surpasses all other wisdom.
Brethren, it is for this reason He chose you as a Christian. Come to think of it; it was not your knowledge, family background, wisdom, beauty, intellect, ability, etc., that made God chose you. Some of us have no educational qualification to interpret the bible but God uses our mouth effectively to communicate the gospel and turn hearts unto repentance.
Therefore, we should glory in what God made us and not what we think we have achieved by human wisdom. Let all glory be ascribed unto God alone (verses 30 & 31).
Food for Thought: James 2:5
Memory verse: 1 Corinthians 1:27
Prayer: Lord, thank you for choosing me as your own by your wisdom. Help me to live my life in gratitude and praise unto you and you alone.

Accept God’s Pardon Now: Devotion for Monday March 2, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Monday March 2, 2020
Topic: Accept God’s Pardon Now
Text: Isaiah 43:22 – 28
Amnesty is pardon or prosecution free period. The period we are alive here on earth is the period of Amnesty; it is a period God will not prosecute us for our sins.
In our text, God showed the real condition between Him and Israel; they have not cared to call upon him (v22), neither did they offer sacrifices to him (v23, 24). Despite all these, God out of His abundant mercies opted to grant them amnesty and forgive them (v25). This is an encouragement for us to repent, because there is forgiveness with God now. When God forgives, He forgets.
God’s amnesty is still there for us till death. Have you accepted the offer or you have rejected it? Now is the time you have to decide because the moment you give up ghost, there will be no more amnesty for you. God’s pardon for us ends at death. Once you die without accepting it, you will face persecution and judgement of God.
As we don’t hold our future neither do we know when we shall die, it is expedient that we decide now on what to do for your good and that is to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Accept Him now before it will be too late.
Food for Thought:He that promised pardon on our repentance has not promised life till we repent” – Francis Quarles.
Memory verse: Isaiah 43:25
Prayer: God, help me to accept your amnesty now before it will be too late.

From Outcast to A Celebrity: Devotion for Sunday March 1, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Sunday March 1, 2020
Topic: From Outcast to A Celebrity
Text: Judges 11:1 – 11
There are many people born legitimately but has no achievement to show for it while many people who are termed ‘bastard’ have lived to become great and prosperous in the society.
The story of Jephthah in our bible reading for the day is an example that confirms the fact that parentage has little to do with what we become in life. When his people in Gilead were face with impending war from Ammonites, they remembered Jephthah and went to him to lead them into the war. He gave them a condition which they agreed on even with an oath. He that was despised became sought after and celebrity among the people that despised and rejected him. May that be your story that those that despised and rejected you will come looking for you to assist them in Jesus name!
Beloved, have people despised you and called you outcast, never-do-well, etc., because of your past? Are you now a shadow of yourself and downcast, and can’t raise your face in the public because of your past; your parentage, your sins, your failures in life, etc.?
Today, I am reminding you that God has hidden some talents in you that will lift out of your past, sin, failure, etc. God is waiting on you to take a step and your light will burst out for the world to acknowledge you. Those who hitherto had concluded that you can never succeed will come back to congratulate you and to ask for help. I am waiting to hear your testimony.
Food for Thought: Success is not based on parentage
Memory verse: Genesis 26:7
Prayer: Lord God, grant that all who despised me will come back to celebrate me in Jesus name.

Refreshing Dew: Devotion for Saturday February 29, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Saturday February 29, 2020
Topic: Refreshing Dew
Text: Hosea 14:4 – 7
This chapter of the book Hosea has a call to repentance and the unprecedented blessings that will follow if Israel obeys the call. A survey of this chapter has it that Hosea 14:1 – 3 is the call while verse 4ff is the response God will give when they repent. There are some lessons for us in this chapter.
a)       There is the need to acknowledge our sins (1 John 1:8 – 10, Psalm 51:1 -12). Lenten season should be used to assess our spiritual life and relationship with God and humanity. It takes humility and honesty to recognize and admit our weakness because it is difficult for some people to admit and acknowledge their shortcomings and faults. This is largely due to self in Man. If it is so with you, repent and ask God to help you out.
b)       There are blessings when we confess our sins (Hosea 4:4 – 9; Proverbs 28:13 & 1 John 1:9). One of those blessings of repentance is in our text for the day. God assures that He will be a refreshing dew to Israel when they turn from their evil and return to Him. Refreshing gives new strength. When you repent, God will renew you and bestow great blessings upon you.
Food for Thought: Repentance is a guarantee of refreshing dew from God upon us.
Memory verse: Job 29:19
Prayer: God, grant me the spirit of humility and honesty to always admit my weaknesses and fault and also repent of them in Jesus name.

Mutual Honour: Devotion for Friday February 28, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Friday February 28, 2020
Topic: Mutual Honour
Text: 1 Samuel 2:27 – 36
Here in our bible reading for the day, God spoke about Eli. The reason behind God’s word on mutual honour is in 1 Samuel 2:27 – 29. An example of the evil deeds of the sons of Eli is found in 1 Samuel 2:12 – 17. God had earlier made promises to Eli that was absolute (see 1 Sam 2:27 – 36). However we see that like all other apparently absolute promises of God, they are conditional. He posited that Eli has walked unworthy and the promise will be annulled and ordinance reversed. See Jeremiah 18:9, 10. Are there lessons for us here?
God is love and slow to anger. We all know this! He gave Eli and his sons enough time to repent but they abused the opportunity. The consequences are 1 Samuel 2:31 – 34. God removed the honour He had earlier placed on his family.
Beloved, has God been warning you and you are hardening your heart thinking that you have all the time on earth? Do not undermine God’s mercies. Whatever God has entrusted into your hands, you must endeavour to remain faithful and trustworthy. If He has honoured you with that position, use it well to glorify him. The honour you give to God with your blessings will determine the honour you will receive from Him. Read the sad story of Moses for dishonouring God in Numbers 20:12
Food for Thought: The way you honour God will determine the honour He will bestow on you
Memory verse: Psalm 91:14
Prayer: Help me O Lord my God, to honour you with my call and live well for you in Jesus name.

Be Influential And Honourable: Devotion for Thursday February 27, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Thursday February 27, 2020
Topic: Be Influential and Honourable
Text: Psalm 112:9
It was Aquinas who sagely said, “Man should not consider his outward possession as his own but as common to all; so as to share them without hesitation when others are in need.” Have you ever asked yourself what are the things people will use to remember you when you die? What will people say that you achieved?
The concern of people is just to acquire wealth for their immediate family and generations unborn. The generous person is someone who is God’s reserviour from where His abundance flows out to supply the need of the needy. While a stingy person do have great in-gathering but very slow in dispersing those blessings. Which group do you belong?
In our text, the Psalmist said that God will remember those who give generously for their good deeds. He asserts that being generous with our gifts and blessings is the very way to become influential and honourable. This reminds me of Dorcas (Acts 9:36 – 43). What are the lessons for us in Proverbs 19:17 & 2 Corinthians 9:6 – 7?
Are you generous with the blessings God has bestowed on you? If not repent today and begin to share your blessings with other so that you can become influential and honourable. Above all God will remember and reward your good deeds. Use this Lenten Season as a period to start something.
Food for Thought: It is your generosity that will bring you influence and honour and not the wealth you have accumulated.
Memory verse: 2 Corinthians 9:9
Prayer: God grant to me the spirit of generosity and help me never to be stingy with the blessings you have bestowed on me

My Secured Lot : Devotion for Wednesday February 26, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday February 26, 2020
Topic: My Secured Lot
Text: Psalm 16:1 – 7
Of what use will it be to God after blessing you to see those blessings being taken away from you either by the devil or his agents. When God is your portion and inheritance, He becomes your shield, shelter and protector. When you trust Him, He will be your shield (2 Samuel 22:31). Read Psalm 82:11 to know more about your relationship with God.
John Wesley says, “I rejoice in God as my portion and desire no better, no other.” In Ezekiel 34:28, God gave an assurance that His people (Israel) will no longer be prey for the nations. Does this statement reveal to you the kind of God we serve? The Lord’s portion as used here according to Family Bible Notes means “those whom He set apart especially for Himself, treated as His peculiar treasure and for whom He might expect special revenue of glory.” This is what God expects from us.
Beloved, your blessings can only come from God. In fact, God bestowed on every believer His blessings at birth and it doesn’t add any sorrow (Prov. 10:22). If your blessing came with sorrow, know that it is not of God and will never be secure. Anything God gives to His children last with them. If you want your lot to be secured, then surrender your life to Jesus Christ and He will begin to secure you and your lot.
Food for Thought: Have you located your portion in the Lord and is it secured with Him?
Memory verse: Psalm 119:57
Prayer: God grant that I will remain yours forever as you secure my lot.

The Fearless Triumphs: Devotion for Tuesday February 24, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Tuesday February 24, 2020
Topic: The Fearless Triumphs
Text: Psalm 112:8
Someone said that fear is the devil’s strongest weapon of war. The moment devil succeeds in making us fearful, all other thing like doubt, intimidation, anxiety, worries, despair and many others will follow.
Who are those the scriptures describe as fearless in Psalm 112:1? What are they known for as we have in verse 1b? When we fear God and obey His will, we cannot fear any man rather we will respect them, just as one “Keke” rider wrote on his “Keke;” “Fear God, Respect Army.”
Sin brings fear into man but not so with the righteous. The kind of love the righteous has for God makes his heart to be established. His love for God is deep and true; his confidence in God is firm and unmoved; his courage has a firm foundation and is supported by Omnipotence. He is not a rolling stone but a pillar in the house of God. This is how the righteous is known. A man of faith who loves God is fearless, and he overcomes (1 John 5:4, 5). If you are afraid, you cannot triumph.
Do you want to win that battle against the enemy? If you want to be a victor and triumph, then fear God and don’t be afraid of the devil and his agents. Sacred Songs and Solos (SS&S) 561 is a great source of insight on how you can be courageous and fearless in your Christian race.
Food for Thought: Whom do you fear; God, Man or devil?
Memory verse: Proverbs 1:33
Prayer: Pray and ask God to grant you more confidence in Him and grant you victory over your enemies.

Out of Bound: Devotion for Monday February 24, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Monday February 24, 2020
Topic: Out of Bound
Text: Psalm 121: 7 – 8
By the token of the New Covenant we have with God, genuine Christians carries about an emblem with the decree “Touch Not Mine Anointed” and “Do My Prophets No Harm.” If Christians have the full knowledge of the provisions we have in the New Covenant with God they serve, all their duty in life would be to serve God sincerely.
Family Bible Notes posited that “the righteous have an Almighty Friend and Keeper ever present to help them in trouble; support them in temptation, guide them in perplexity and defend them from all injury.” This is the truth about our heritage in Christ Jesus; a friend like no other.
Do you know that it is the will of God is to protect you? This is the reason He announced His Redemption Plan for humanity immediately after the fall of Adam. If He was not will to protect us, He would have left us at the mercy of the devil if at all devil have any atom of mercy. When God grant us His protection, we are safe even in the midst of greatest dangers. This kind of protection is peculiar to the righteous and those who are beneficiaries carry the tag, “Touch Not Mine Anointed.”
Beloved, have you entered into a New Covenant with God? If you have not done so, do it now so as to benefit from God’s Covenant of protection against harm and evil.
Food for Thought: “Are you under God’s decree of Touch Not Mine Anointed?”
Memory verse: Psalm 145:20
Prayer: God, watch over my life and my family and preserve us from all evil in Jesus name.

Don’t Exalt Yourself: Devotion for Sunday February 23, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Sunday February 23, 2020
Topic: Don’t Exalt Yourself
Text: Proverbs 12:9
Self is one problem hindering Man from perfection. Human nature in its entirety is selfish. It is inborn and only God can subdue or remove it in our lives. This problem is what the writer of Proverbs had seen and thus gave this admonition in our text. Sacrificing comfort and independence just to gain vain ostentation is the highest height of foolishness. “The affectation of wealth and rank makes men hypocritical and dishonest, and its end is ignominy and contempt” so asserts Family Bible Notes.
People usually want to present themselves as being important and indispensable when they are not (Prov. 13:7 & 12:9). Jesus warns us not to exalt ourselves (Matthew 23:12). James and Peter also confirmed that in James 4:10 and 1 Peter 5:6.
From Genesis to Revelation, we have stories of men and women that fell off God’s glory because they exalted themselves. Time will fail us to mention Satan, Saul, Nebuchadnezzar, Rehoboam, Herod and many others. Do not exalt yourself. Be contented with your position for God is pleased with it; whether rich or poor and at the right time, he will exalt you.
Food for Thought: Self exaltation has grave consequences.
Memory verse: Proverbs 13:7
Prayer: Lord God, grant me the spirit of contentment and remove pride in me which might lead me to exalt myself in Jesus name

One Condition for Receiving: Devotion for Saturday February 22, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Saturday February 22, 2020
Topic: One Condition for Receiving
Text: John 15:1 – 8
There are conditions upon which God can answer prayers as Jesus revealed in our text. In verses 4 – 7, Jesus consecutively used “abide in me.” To abide in Jesus means total and complete submission to His will, purpose and intent. Someone who abides in Christ is known by the fruits the fellow bears (Matt. 7:16, 17; Galatians 5:22, 23). Someone who is in Christ is known by his or her commitment to the service of God and humanity.
If we hope to please God and gain anything from Him, we must a) be united with Christ – abide in Him b) Our lives should be regulated by the word of God c) pray (ask) d) note that heavenly blessings shall be given to those who continue in the union with Christ with loving obedience and praying spirit.
Abiding in Jesus is a guarantee that we will receive from God what we ask because abiding in Him involves to submission to His will. Are you abiding in Him? Do you depend on your strength, power, wisdom, knowledge, parents, connections and other means to succeed?
It is only in Christ that can do it for us (John 15:5) and He is our sufficiency (2 Corinthians 3:5).
Food for Thought: Are you in Christ and His word in you?
Memory verse: John 15:7
Prayer: God help me to abide in you and your word in me so that when I ask, I will receive in Jesus name.

My God Will Save Me: Devotion for Friday February 21, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Friday February 21, 2020
Topic: My God Will Save Me
Text 1 Samuel 17:37
It is proper to recall what God did for us in the past so that we can build our faith on that to face future challenges. This is the imperative of testimonies in Christian gathering (see Revelation 12:11). The Philistines used their champion and giant Goliath to challenge Israel, requesting that they should present someone for a one on one contest with their giant (1 Samuel 17:23 – 24). He taunted Israel and defied the God of Israel.
Saul and all the Israeli army fled at that challenge. It was sin that brought fear into their lives (compare Proverbs 28:1). However, David, a young man of less than 18 years of age according to some commentators saw the challenge of Goliath as against God and not Israel. That propelled him to fight. He told Saul and later Goliath that His God will save him. He had that assurance and was fearless.
In our present world, we are faced with challenges from spiritual and physical Goliaths who want to consume us. They are in our families, offices, business arena, neighbourhood, market, schools, etc. When they come challenging and making mockery of your faith and your God, are you bold enough to stand against them or are you running like Saul and his men (1 Sam. 17:11)? If you are afraid, then search your life to know if you are standing in the Lord or not.
Just think about that great deliverance God gave you before. He can still do something greater for you. He is still alive (compare Hebrews 13:8). Trust Him to save you from those spiritual and physical Goliaths challenging you in that marriage, home, school, office, neighbourhood, etc. The Lord is with you.
Food for Thought: God is never tired of fighting our battles and delivering us from the plans of the enemies
Memory verse: Psalm 18:17
Prayer: Help me O Lord to trust in you when the enemies rise against me.

Our God Is Alive! Devotion for Thursday February 20, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Thursday February 20, 2020
Topic: Our God Is Alive!
Text: Psalm 115:2 – 3
The theme for Psalm 115 is God is alive. Our God thinks about us and also cares for us. For this reason, we should put Him first in our lives. Probably someone has once asked you where is your God? Have someone ever said to you, “Let me see the God that will save you in this matter’ just as Sennarcherib did (2 Chronicles 32:10 – 15)?
Have you also been mocked by people because of what you are passing through now saying that your God could not even save/deliver you? Have you been maligned for serving God because nothing seems to be working for you?
Do not be disheartened, our God is alive and He does what pleases Him at His own time. That there is no food; money, child, prospective husband/wife, job and other needs do not mean we cannot make heaven which is the ultimate in Christianity. It shouldn’t stop us from serving God. If your priority in serving God is because you need healing and other needs, you have missed the mark and will meet with frustration.
No matter how long the enemies have maligned you, one obvious truth is that your God will arise for you at the right time (Psalm 46:26; 68:1). Always tell those foes that your God is in heaven and will arise for you at His own time.
Food for Thought: Do you believe that our God is alive and on the throne?
Memory verse: Psalm 42:3
Prayer: God, may my enemies eat their words as you arise for me in Jesus name.

No Second Affliction: Devotion for Wednesday February 19, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday February 19, 2020
Topic: No Second Affliction
Text: Nahum 1:9 – 13
We serve a jealous God who avenges for us and delivers us from bondage. Though our God is slow to anger but when He is angry, heaven and earth trembles. In spite of that, our God is good (Nahum 1:7). This chapter of Nahum expresses God’s anger against Assyrians (Nineveh).
Here in our text, God asserted that He knows all the plans of the people of Nineveh (Nahum 1:9). He searches and knows the intents of our hearts too (1 Chronicles 29:8). Nahum told the Assyrians that any attempt at resisting the All Powerful God is insane because He is not like other opponents they have conquered. God protects His people (Isaiah 37:23 – 29).
Affliction shall not arise the second time has Judah as the object of God’s blow (Nahum 1:12) and it refers to an end to their punishment. This shows that our God is merciful and gracious. Have you been under God’s punishment because of sin and disobedience, He is telling you today that He has remembered mercy and will no longer allow that affliction again. He says that you will not experience misfortune and failure again. That is God’s assurance for you today. Trust Him to do it.
Food for Thought: “As sure as God puts His children in the furnace, He will be in the furnace with them” – Charles Spurgeon
Memory verse: Nahum 1:9
Prayer: Pray against spirit of failure, affliction and misfortune in your life and family in Jesus name.

Let there be Light: Devotion for Tuesday 18th February, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Tuesday February 18, 2020
Topic: Let there be Light
Text: Genesis 1:3
Let there be light as used here is what God willed, decreed and appointed. There was result when God said it! There was darkness everywhere and God decreed light and darkness went away. May the light of God shine upon you this season for darkness to go away in Jesus name! Darkness is example of evil; backwardness, failure, lack of progress in personal endeavours, etc. Today, many people are in darkness because of ignorance and sin. We also know that devil and his agents are carrier of darkness.
God causes light to shine out of darkness and He can cause light into the darkest part of our lives. Jesus said that He is the light of the world. When we allow Jesus to come into our lives through repentance He will dispel the light in our lives, families and work. Are you living in sin, know that you are surrounded with darkness and you need Jesus Christ in your life. Are you experiencing backwardness, failure, lack of progress, problems in life, marriage, studies and business? You need Jesus to dispel the darkness causing these problems. Allow the light of God in your life because “there is no darkness enough in the entire world to put out the light of one candle” – Epitaph in PowerBible Online. Note that the light of God is greater than the light of the candle.
Food for Thought: Light makes the difference in our lives and the world.
Memory verse: Psalm 33:9
Prayer: Lord, decree and shine your light into my life, family and endeavours in Jesus name.

Qualities of a Good Servant: Devotion for Tuesday January 4, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL

Devotion for Tuesday February 4, 2020
Topic: Qualities of a True Servant
Text: 1 Peter 2:18 – 25
Servants in the bible days generally were slaves, and had heathen masters, who often used them cruelly; yet Apostle Peter directs them to be subject to the masters placed over them by Providence, with fear so that they will not dishonor or offend God. And not only to those pleased with their reasonable service, but to the severe, and those angry without cause. This may seem a hard teaching but that is what God requires of us. It is said that two wrongs cannot make a right. The sinful misconduct of one relation, does not justify sinful behaviour in the other just to retaliate. For this reason, a servant is bound to his duty, though the master may be sinfully froward and perverse.
Christians are servants to God and in some other places, servants to men in the case of our offices, as apprentice or in business. We owe it a duty to serve God diligently there whether it is convenient for us or not. Our masters where we work may be froward – difficult to deal with and at times make life miserable for us. However, no matter how difficult they may be to us we owe it a duty to serve well because our service is not only to our earthly masters but to our God in heaven. Paul also gave similar advice in Ephesians 6:5; Colossians 3:22; 1 Timothy 6:1; Titus 2:9. How effectively are you serving as a civil servant, public servants, apprentice, shop keeper, etc.? How faithful are you in that house as a maid, nanny or house help? God demands absolute obedience and nothing less.
Food for Thought: Loyalty and perseverance even in the face of unjust treatment singles us out as true Christians.
Memory verse: 1 Peter 2:18
Prayer: Lord God, make me a faithful and obedient servant in the place where I work in Jesus name.

Walk in the Spirit: Devotion for Friday January 31, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Friday January 31, 2020
Topic: Walk in the Spirit
Text: Galatians 5:16 – 18
Paul acknowledged the great weakness of the godly, because they are partly regenerated and exhorts them to remember that they are endued with the Spirit of God. He also exhorts them to walk in that Spirit they have been endued with so as not to give room for the flesh.
The more we obey the new nature, and follow the leading of the Spirit of grace, the more the power of indwelling sin and inbred corruption in us will be mortified and kept under check. Obedience to the Spirit enables us to walk in the Spirit because old nature and new nature cannot dwell together. They “are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” – Galatians 5:7b
Walking in the Spirit is one of the best ways we can live the life that is pleasing to God. By pleasing God, we attract His blessings upon our lives. In this case it is best for us to walk in the Spirit. We can do this well by knowing what God wants us to do through the study of His words.
When the word of God is rooted in us, we will no longer be ignorant about what God expects from us.
Are you walking in the flesh or in the Spirit?
Food for Thought: Walking in the Spirit makes us more like Christ
Memory verse: Romans 8:6
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to walk in the Spirit so as to mortify the indwelling sin and corruption of the flesh in Jesus name.

Servants of Sin:Devotion for Wednesday January 29, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday January 29, 2020
Topic: Servants of Sin
Text: Romans 6:1 – 6
Paul expresses the necessity of holiness in life of Christians. He shows that justification and holiness are inseparable. He asked series of questions here (Romans 6:1–3) stressing that Christians should abhor the thought of continuing in sin. In view of the foregoing truths (Romans 5) and especially the fact that where sin abounded, grace did much more abound, shall we continue to live in sin, that grace may the more abound?
In Romans 6:4, Paul exhorted Christians who have received the sacrament of baptism, should walk in newness of life so as to be united with Christ in His resurrection (Romans 6:5). Baptism teaches the necessity of dying to sin, and being buried from all ungodly and unholy pursuits, and of rising to walk with God in newness of life.
Christians should know that our old man (old nature of sin) has been crucified and what is crucified is dead. The reason for crucifying the old nature is to deliver us from being servants of sin. It is one thing to sin, and another thing to serve sin: To serve sin, is to yield willing obedience, to indulge ourselves in any presumptuous act or course of sin. It is prevalent of sin that destroys the sinner. Being in the flesh makes us to continue in sin and that displeases God.
Are you still living in sin and serving it? The whole body of sin, whatever is not according to the holy law of God, must be done away with, so that we may no more be the slave of sin, but live to God, and find happiness in His service.
Food for Thought: Continuing in sin makes our baptism irrelevant.
Memory verse: Galatians 5:24
Prayer: Lord, help me to live a crucified life so I will no longer be a servant of sin.

God Hates Wickedness: Devotion for Tuesday January 28, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Tuesday January 28, 2020
Topic: God Hates Wickedness
Text: Psalm 45:6 – 9
God hates anything wickedness and He vexes His anger anyone who practices wickedness. This is because He is love and expects people created in His image to love instead of being wicked.
In our bible reading, the Psalmist reveals what the throne of God is. He didn’t restrain his adoration of Almighty God expressing what His Kingdom is made of. Scepter means royal authority or staff used as royal emblem. The emblem of our God is justice and righteousness. Because it is his nature being just and righteous, He hates wickedness (See Psalm 5:5; 33:5).
There are some people who love and desire to practice wickedness. They love it so much that if they have not made trouble with people, they are will not be happy. Wickedness comes in form of oppression, abuse of all kinds, willfully committing sin, luring people into evil, telling lies, betrayal, etc. Christians should not practice or tolerate wickedness.
For this reason Psalm 97:10 admonishes us that we should hate wickedness as our God does. People who have no love find it easier to practice wickedness (See 1 John 2:11; 3:15),
Are you nursing any form of hatred or bitterness against someone? Repent of it now before devil will lead you into wicked act.
Action: If there is anyone who has offended you, make peace with the person today before devil will lead you into wicked act.
Memory verse: Psalm 33:7
Prayer:  God, make me love righteousness and hate wickedness as you do in Jesus name.
