Topic: A Place of Destiny and Fulfillment

Text: Genesis 46:1 – 3

When Jesus told some fishermen to go follow Him, they obeyed Him and today their names rings bell in the world. Who would have known the names of Peter, Andrew, James and John if not that they obeyed the instruction to follow Jesus? There are places God have chosen to open our destinies. The promise of making Jacob great was made by God in Genesis 28:13 – 15.

God told Jacob to leave his home and travel to a strange and faraway land just the way He told Abraham. He was old, 130 years old; it was a long journey, and he was unfit to travel. However, He reassured him that He will take care of him in the journey. God fulfilled it by making Israel a great nation in Egypt. They were 75 persons that left for Egypt and came out in millions. What a mighty God we serve!

When new situations or surroundings frighten us as we have just entered a new year, we should recognize that experiencing fear is normal. However, to be paralyzed by fear is an indication that you question God’s ability to take care of you. There is a place God has chosen to bless and prosper you this year. All you need to do is ask for divine wisdom from God to get to that place of recognition and blessing. Let’s trust God to help us as we undertake various ventures this year. He will see us through and make you great.

Text: Matthew 2:16 – 18           Memory verse: v 16b

When devil is out to destroy a soul, he can terminate many others to get that one person. Unfortunately, when God’s hand is at work, they may be a mayhem or genocide which will still not get to the person devil wants. This is the case in our bible reading for today. Herod was furious when he learned that the wise men had outwitted him. All Herod knew was that a future king, still a child, lived in Bethlehem. After consulting with the wise men (2:7), he deduced that the child would not be more than two years old. So he sent soldiers to kill all the boys in and around Bethlehem who were two years old and below. This is just to get at one person.

Any effort of men to prevent the fulfilment of the word of God never materializes. Herod stained his hands with blood, but he did not harm Jesus. Herod was king by a human appointment; Jesus is a King by a divine appointment. No one can thwart God’s plans. This story should encourage us in our time of trials because our destiny is in God’s hand. No amount of threat and intimidation can stop God’s plan against your life (Lamentation 3:3). Your destiny cannot be thwarted. You will live fully.
