We are Joint Heirs: Devotion for Wednesday January 8, 2020

MY DAILY COVENANT WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL
Devotion for Wednesday January 8 2020
Topic: We are Joint Heirs
Text: Romans 8:17 – 25
Our God breaks protocols. He can change the course of nature to ensure He blesses someone or fulfill His wills for us. When He wanted to come into the world, He chose a virgin which by nature is not possible. When Balaam couldn’t see reasons with Him, He used his donkey to speak to him (Numbers 22:22 – 28). This is what makes God the Almighty.
Here, Paul says that Christians are all first born and heirs. Naturally first born are heirs others in the family are never seen as heirs. In earthly inheritances this rule does not hold, only the first-born are heirs; but the church is a church of first-born, for they are all heirs. Heaven is an inheritance that all the saints are heirs to.
They do not come to it as purchasers by any merit or procurement of their own; but as heirs, purely by the act of God; for God makes heirs. The saints are heirs though in this world they are heirs under age (see Galatians 4:1 – 2). Our qualification to inherit what God has for us is on the condition that we suffer with Him (Rom. 8:17). He further stated that what God has in stock for us should make us to be expectant of the time we will be glorified (Rom. 8:18 – 25). Are you working towards it? Make it a priority this year never to lose out from your inheritance through sin.
Food for Thought: Is it possible to lose out as heir? Give reasons for your answer.
Memory verse: Galatians 4:7
Prayer: God, as you have made me heir, don’t allow me to abuse this honour on me in Jesus name.

The Preeminence Of Christ

Devotion for Wednesday August 8, 2018
Topic: The Preeminence Of Christ
Text: Colossians 1:15 – 18
In our bible reading for the day, Paul stated why Jesus Christ is the first born of all creation which made Him preeminence. Jesus Christ revealed to us the nature of invisible God and “by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”
Apostle Paul’s expression is that Jesus existed before creation began; born of God instead of being created by the divine fiat; born before any creature was called into existence. The passage does not say that he was the first created, but the first-born. He was before creation (See John 1:1, 2). What Paul had in mind here was that Jesus Christ should be given the right place in our lives. He should be worshipped and honoured for He is supreme over all creatures even for the work of salvation He did in dying for us.
Have you accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour, who died for us? You should not see Him as that man born by Mary but look beyond that because He is God from the beginning of ages. Therefore, we should learn to worship and adore Him always.
Food for Thought:  What is your understanding of the person of Christ Jesus?
Memory Verse: Colossians 1:15
Prayer: Almighty God, grant me the understanding of the person of Christ so that I can give Him the honour and worship due to Him.

In A Moment Of Weakness

Devotion for Monday January 22, 2018
Topic: In A Moment Of Weakness
Text: Genesis 25:29 – 34
If you have ever given away a valuable possession and later regretted it, you will probably recall that you made that decision of giving out that valuable possession under pressure or in a moment of weakness. At that time, resistance seemed impossible. A birthright was a special honour given to the firstborn son (Genesis 25:31). It included a double portion of the family inheritance along with the honour of one day becoming the family’s leader. Birthrights were priceless.
In Isaac’s family, the birthright belonged to Esau. But because of Esau’s narrow view, he did not hold on to it. Esau was hungry and Jacob had some food, Esau could not see beyond his exaggerated sense of need. His words in Genesis 25:32 were probably not true; it merely reflected how he felt. Esau acted on impulse, satisfying his immediate desires without pausing to consider the long-range consequences of what he was about to do. Esau did not need to eat the meal he so desperately wanted, but the pressure of the moment distorted his perspective and made his decision seem urgent.
People often experience similar pressures and face similar decisions. For example, under sexual temptation, a marriage vow may seem unimportant. What pressures do you face at the moment? You can avoid making Esau’s mistake by comparing an action’s short-term satisfaction with its long-range consequences before you act. Getting through that short, pressure–filled moment is often the most difficult and most important part of overcoming a temptation. May God help us in such times in Jesus name, Amen! Sing A&M 184
Food for Thought: Do you act on impulse to satisfying your immediate desires without pausing to consider the long-range consequences?
Memory verse: Genesis 25:32
Prayer: Lord, may I not sell my Christian right for any material gain in Jesus name. Amen
