BE STEADFAST IN PRAYER

BE STEADFAST IN PRAYER Sunday April 26, 2015

Text: Colossians 4:2 – 5 Memory verse: v 2

We can gain so many things by being vigilant and earnest in prayer. Our world is so morally corrupt that one begins to doubt the effect of Christianity on our age. Despite the number of preachers, the means of preaching in our time and number of Churches, we still have various evils and vices being the order of the day. However, true Christians should not relent. That is why prayer and vigilance are important. Prayer is believers’ lifeline to God. No duty can be performed creditably, unless we persevere in fervent prayer, and watch therein. Life Application Commentary says, “Their devotion to prayer did not mean that they should spend all their time on their knees, but that they should have a prayerful attitude at all times. This attitude would be built upon acknowledging their dependence on God, realizing his presence within them, and determining to obey him fully.” What is your attitude to prayer? When we have wrong attitude to prayer, it is evident that we have started losing faith in Christ Jesus.

Have you ever grown tired of praying for something or someone? Our persistence in prayer is an expression of our faith in God answering our prayers. Our faith shouldn’t die if the answers come slowly, for the delay may be God’s way of working His will in our life.

Food for Thought: A prayerful attitude is not a substitute for regular times of prayer but should be an outgrowth of those times.

Prayer: Help me O Lord, to maintain right attitude to prayer and never to give up even when I have not received an answer in Jesus name.

  1. Thus says the LORD to this people, "Even so they have loved to wander; they have not kept their feet in check Therefore the LORD does not accept them; now He will remember their iniquity and call their sins to account." So the LORD said to me, "Do not pray for the welfare of this people. "When they fast, I am not going to listen to their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I am not going to accept them Rather I am going to make an end of them by the sword, famine and pestilence."
