SEPARATION OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS: Devotion for Saturday March 14, 2015
Text: Genesis 1:1 – 4 Memory
verse: 4
In
spiritual terms, light represents anything good, righteous and godly while
darkness represents everything evil, bad, vices and ungodly. At creation, God
separated light from darkness because two of them staying together will amount
to confusion on earth. He had to separate them so that we can learn different
life lessons from them. Light has its place as well as darkness in shaping us
into what we will become in eternity.
What
God did in separating light from darkness has some lessons of life to teach us.
It teaches us that we have, as part of our lives, good and bad which confronts
us on daily basis as we have light and darkness as part of our daily life. God
separated light from darkness, because with them, he would daily remind us that
this is a world of mixtures and changes. This separation is also a reminder for
us that when we transit from this earth, those who did good and evil doers can
never stay together. There will be a separation. Those who did well in this
life will enter into the light of God and those who did evil will enter into
the outer darkness where there will be gnashing of teeth (Matthew 22:13). Does
the life you live represent light (Matthew 5:14 – 16) or darkness? Where do you
belong? See 1 Peter 2:9.
Food for Thought: John 12:46
Prayer: Lord, help me to shine always as light and not
darkness to my world.
