Topic: Trust God All Through

Text: Matthew 6:25 – 30   

One major teaching of Christ during His earthly ministry was on faith in God, stressing the importance of trusting God with all our hearts as commanded even in the Old Testament. He was against distracting, distrustful cares about the things of this life. Jesus didn’t condone laziness in pretence of waiting for God to supply. Instead, He wants us to place our lives and needs in God’s hands, refusing to worry over basic needs.

To worry about your clothes shows little faith in God’s ability to supply. God clothes the flowers and grass of the field that are here today and gone tomorrow. If His creation clothes the earth with beauty and colour so rich that even King Solomon in all his glory could not match it, then He will surely care for you created in His image. Certainly, every family is preoccupied with either bills to pay or project they wish to undertake.

Most times, we fall short of our trust and believe in God to meet our needs. The reasons are our poor understanding of God, being worldly minded, fear and asking for things outside the will of God. Such shortfall in our trust and believe in God lead some Christians to run to soothsayers and native doctors when they face challenges of life instead of trusting God. If we must make progress and be successful in our endeavours this year 2017 and beyond, we must trust God in both small and big things.

Again, we should be heavenly minded to avoid distractions from the things of the world. You may trust the Lord too little, but you can never trust Him too much. All your experiences and all you have seen so far as a Christian should teach you to trust for all you haven’t seen.

Food for Thought: “Beware of despairing about yourself; you are commanded to put your trust in God, and not in yourself” - St. Augustine.

Memory verse: Matthew 6 verse 30 - But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Prayer: Almighty God and my father in heaven, grant me the faith to keep trusting you in this Christian race till the end in Jesus name. Amen.
