TAKE ME AND LET THEM GO Sunday July 26, 2015
Text: John 18:1 – 9 Memory verse: v 8
The sufferings and death of Christ were all foreseen by Him, and were perfectly voluntary. He carefully avoided committing Himself to His enemies or allowing them to take Him before His time had come. Jesus willingly turned Himself over to the soldiers and asked the soldiers to let these others go (v 5, 6), referring to the eleven disciples who were with Him. By this action, he fulfilled his own statement, “I have not lost a single one of those you gave me.” Jesus was referring to words recorded in 6:39 and 17:12. Jesus was the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep (10:11).
This is one of the greatest levels of love Jesus demonstrated towards His disciples. Such was the love of Christ to His disciples, and such His delight in their enjoyment, that He was more ready to save them from their enemies, than to save Himself from the agonies of the cross. Do you doubt the love of God for you? As you go out today, be assured that He is ready to save you because He cares.
Food for Thought: If Jesus did this for us, what can’t He do for us if we ask?
Prayer: Lord, grant me the understanding of your love for me in Jesus name.
