WAYS TO BE SUCCESSFUL - DEVOTION FOR THURSDAY 12TH MARCH, 2015

SOURCE OF PROSPERITY                       Thursday March 12, 2015

Text: Joshua 1:1 – 9                                      Memory verse: v 8

Family Bible Notes sagely opined that “The grand means of inspiring and increasing true courage is daily attention to the principles and precepts of the Bible, for the purpose of understanding and obeying them.” This is true because the word of God gives assurance, courage and it inspires. Many people think that prosperity and success come from having power, influential personal contacts or network, and a relentless desire to get ahead. It is not necessarily so. The strategy for gaining prosperity that God taught Joshua goes against such criteria. According to God’s criteria, Joshua must (1) be strong and courageous because the task ahead would not be easy, (2) obey God’s law, and (3) constantly read and study the Book of the Law—God’s Word. If we desire success, we should follow God’s words to Joshua. You may not succeed by the world’s standards, but you will be a success in God’s eyes.

Diligent study of the word of God shows us what God's will are and our duties as Christians. Success stems from obedience and faithfulness to the word of God (Deuteronomy 28:1, 2). God grants us strength to make wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18) and we must follow His conditions if we intend to succeed. Anything achieved outside the will of God is bound to fade with time but that which comes from God will last till eternity.    

Food for Thought: All round prosperity in our endeavours depends on firm and constant obedience to all the laws of God.

Prayer:  God, grant me wisdom to apply your word in all I do.
