LOOK UNTO JESUS

LOOK UNTO JESUS: Devotion for Sunday March 1, 2015

Text: Hebrew 12:1 – 3 Memory verse: v 2

If we must reach the point at which we will receive any prize from God for our calling, we must conform to certain standards. We should take a clue from those that ran before us and were successful; how they persevered, enduring all forms of trials to reach the end. Again, we should look unto Him who called us because He alone grants the grace to run this Christian race successfully. Christian life requires us to give up whatever endangers our bond with God, to run patiently, and to struggle against sin with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus, our example, perfectly finished His race. Jesus obeyed God perfectly and thus began the New Covenant (Hebrews 2:10). He set the course of faith, ran the race first (Hebrews 6:20), and now waits for us to join Him at the end, encouraging us all the way. He died a shameful death on the cross. Yet Jesus endured all this suffering on account of the joy He knew would be His afterward. He kept His eyes focused on the goal of His course and didn’t allow earthly discomforts to distract Him. To live effectively this new month and beyond, we must keep our eyes on Jesus. We’ll stumble if we look away from Him to stare at ourselves or at circumstances surrounding us. Run this race for Christ, not yourself, and always keep Him in sight. Have a lovely New Month.

Food for Thought: Focusing on Jesus is a guarantee to successful life.

Prayer: Keep my eyes focused on you alone, Lord Jesus, as I run this race.
