Devotion for Friday March 27, 2015

A WITNESS FOR THE WORLD                   Friday March 27, 2015

Text: John 17:20 – 23                                            Memory verse: 23

Jesus’ work on earth was not only to speak and model the character of God but His ultimate purpose was to present both the splendor and character of God in such a way that God would become personally real to the disciples. We the present disciples, in turn, will have to pass on what we have received to others who would also believe. Those who, in fact, received the glory would become unified by their shared relationship with Christ.

This is what Jesus desires of Christendom. He prayed about this (John 17:23). Complete and perfect unity between God and believers results in worldwide belief which is a witness for the world that Christianity is life. When we demonstrate this oneness, we will convince the world that God sent Jesus and that He loves us deeply and eternally, just as Jesus loves Him.

How united are you with other Christians? Do you love them as yourself? We cannot deceive the world when we are hoarding grudges pretending all is well. They know when we are united for it is always seen in the answer we receive while we pray. Let us not deceive ourselves thinking we are deceiving the world. There is no substitute to unity.

Food for Thought: Perfect unity between God and believers and between believers and themselves is the best sermon we can preach.

Prayer: Lord, make me an instrument of unity in your body (the church).
