Text: Exodus 14:22 – 29

When God’s acts are made manifest, it will easily be noticed that

He did it. It will not leave any trace of doubt. Pharaoh and all the Egyptians knew that God was backing the Israelites. They knew that God wants to take them out of their land but selfishness and greed blinded their eyes that they still hardened their hearts and went after the Israelites even after they had suffered the ten plagues. They drove furiously as they were pursuing the Israelites to a point that they started sinking and driving heavily. With that, they found themselves embarrassed at every step, the way grew deep, their hearts grew sad, their wheels dropped off and the axle tree failed. They had been flying upon the back of the Israelites ass the hawk upon the dove; but now they cried “Let us flee the face of the Israelites because the Lord God fights for them.”

Every child of God is special to Him. He guards them jealously and would never allow any evil to come upon them. He fights for them. This is what most people don’t know as they fight Christians. This act of God here should be an eye opener to the enemies of the gospel and Christianity. Beloved, don’t mind all the threats against you. God will fight for you as you keep your peace. He will so do it that your enemies will confess that indeed God is fighting for you.

Topic: I Am Aware Of Their Ordeal

Text: Exodus 3:9

God Almighty is Omnipresence and He hears what we say even in our closet. Jehovah is just, kind, , compassionate and merciful. He tenderly sympathizes with all who are distressed, especially such as wrongfully suffer. He delivers them who are oppressed and punishes the oppressor. This was the case of the Israelites in the land of Egypt.

Moses was in the land of Median when God met him and told him what was happening in the land of Egypt. He told Moses that the cry of the children of Israel had come to Him as a reason of the oppression of the Egyptians. Job 34:28 says “So that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him; For He hears the cry of the afflicted.” God hears the cry of the oppressed (Exodus 22:33). They cry of the Israelites came to God who hates oppression and unjust affliction of people.

Are you going through affliction of the enemies? Are you groaning under heavy yoke of burden of a wicked Boss, Madam, Master, Director, Headmaster or Head Teacher and you have been asking when will your salvation come? God is telling you that He has seen those tears. Do your husband pommel you and you are contemplating of giving up or walking out of the marriage? God is saying that He has seen your tears and will rescue you soon. Don’t give up. Beloved, God has heard your cry for job opportunity, promotion, a life partner, a child or those your other needs. He will soon complete His redemption plans for you. Keep trusting him!

Always Do It As God Commanded

Topic: Always Do It As God Commanded

Text: Numbers 20: 7 – 13

God’s instructions are meant to be carried out to the letters. Anything short from that instruction amounts to disobedience and there is nothing like partial obedience where God is. Saul disobeyed God by not destroying Amalek who were under curse (Exodus 17:8), and that led to his rejection as king (1 Samuel 15:13 – 24).

God instructed Moses to 1) Take the rod, 2) Gather the whole Assembly to be witnesses of what was to be done, that by their own eyes, they might be convinced and made ashamed of their unbelief and 3) Speak to the rock which will do as it was bidden, to shame the people who had been so often spoken to, and would not hear or obey. God promised him that water will come out of the rock. Moses did numbers one and two but failed in number three. God was not happy with Moses but that act of disobedience denied him entry into the Promised Land.

Do you obey the word of God as instructed? God does not compromise His standard. You must do things as He commanded. We know that the best of men are defective, even in those virtues for which they are most distinguished just like Abraham, Moses, Job and others but that should not be a guarantee for us to willfully do things as they please us. We must be very careful never to miss the mark.

A Warning To My Christian Sisters

The gospel of grace that we preach today is not an excuse for careless living and dressing. What is your gain when you wear a skirt that does not cover your knee and when you sit in the church, bible study or fellowship meetings, you use your handkerchief to cover your laps that have been exposed. Who are you deceiving?

Paul said "For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's” (1 Corinthians 6:20 - NKJV). For God's sake, there are clothes that befit Christians. Decency and moderation should be the basis for Christian dressing. Unfortunately our emphasis is quite different. When you expose the sensitive part of your body through indecent dressing and body hug dresses to show how big your buttocks are or your figure 8, who are you deceiving? Remember that the deceiver and the deceived will be cast into the lake of fire.

In such and many other dressings that expose sensitive parts and contours of your body, where is the glory of God? Where is the glory of God when you wear only one sleeve of cloth instead of normal two? Where is the glory of God when you dress without recourse to what could be termed moral standard? Remember that a day of reckoning is coming when we shall give account of what we have done without bodies.

Oh ye ladies, you are inexcusable if you belong to this group. This is a warning for all of you who think that it doesn’t matter. Devil had seen that the emphasis of some people is on skirt, gown, blouses and wrappers and decided to make the ones that will glorify him and not God. He raised tailors from the spirit world to deceive people with designs that are demonic. Unfortunately, most people don’t care. Check the designs of present day wedding gowns; go to fashion parades, go to boutique and see for yourself what people do and yet Christians patronize them because Miss A wore it yesterday. It has now become a standard. Why is it that there is no more shame in the eyes of our ladies? Where is pride of being a born again child of God?     

Parents should warn their children because if they keep quiet because they feel that such dressing is what is obtainable in the present age, they will be held responsible on the last day. Please shout at the roof top for the world and heaven to vindicate you on the last day.

Dearly beloved of God, let your dress be pleasing to God and not because it is what is in vogue. You shouldn’t join the multitude in doing evil. That everybody is doing it does not mean that you too should do it or that it has become a standard. Who invented it - God or Satan? When Adam and Eve, out of foolishness, made clothes for themselves from fig leaves, God saw that it was not good enough and made for them tunic from animal skin.  

Where is the wisdom of today's Christian men and women?

They Grew Despite Affliction

Topic: They Grew Despite Affliction

Text: Exodus 1:8 – 12

Afflicting someone out of sheer jealousy and envy will only amount to blessing on the person being afflicted. We know the case of Joseph, Mordecai and many others in the scriptures. Times of affliction have often been the time the church grew as Christianity spread most when it was persecuted.

The King that does not know Joseph arose to become jealous of God’s blessings upon Israel and decided to punish them (Exodus 1:8 – 11). Unfortunately, the more he does that, the more God bless them and they grew in population. Do you afflict or punish a child of God because you are jealous of what God is doing in his or her life or what God has given to him/her? Repent today before God’s anger will descend on you. Despite the affliction and torture, the Israelites multiplied and grew because of God’s blessings (Exodus 1:12).

How can your enemies and those who afflict you become afraid of you? This can only become possible when you are in the will of God. Psalm 1:1 – 3 speak a blessed man. A blessed man has the favour, protection and backing of God. He prospers despite oppositions or afflictions. The level of your commitment to reading, meditation and application of God’s word to your life, will help you live the life that people will dread of just like the Egyptians were afraid of the Israelites. The choice to do or not to do is all yours.

They Believed God’s Word

Topic: They Believed God’s Word

Text: Exodus 4:31

Today’s text is contradictory to what we have in Exodus 6:6 – 9 as the Israelites did not heed to Moses. Here, they believed but when what they had expected didn’t come – the immediate release from bondage of Pharaoh and his men, they didn’t believe any longer. They had thought that their deliverance would have been so easy but it was not so. This is one of the many problems of men who come to Jesus Christ because they need a good job, spouse, heal

ing, deliverance; fruit of the womb, prosperous business and breakthrough in all endeavours. When they come and didn’t receive what they had desired from God, they will easily give up.

The people believed the word of God through Moses and Aaron that God has appeared for them in mercy and was about to deliver them from bondage. God is better to us than our fears. We overcome difficulties in some o our duties when God appears for us. The yoke which appears to exasperating will be easy and the burden which seems so heavy will be made light (Matthew 11:29 – 30).

The word of God is a source of encouragement. There is nothing that gives joy more than the word of God we hear. As we hear it, it brings comfort, gives directions, removes fear and grant us boldness (Joshua 1:8; Palm 1:1 – 3).

How do you take God’s word you hear? Do you believe it? It is the word of God we hear that will bring miracles and open doors for us. Constant meditation on the word of God will strengthen our faith to believe in God. Please make time to read and meditate on the word of God for that will give you the needed result in life.

They Were Unperturbed

Topic: They Were Unperturbed

Text: Daniel 3:8: – 18

There are kinds of faith that God cannot ignore or overlook especially when it will glorify Him. When Esther did the unusual because the lives of God’s people were at stake, she got God’s approval and the favour she sought from the king. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego made up their minds to refuse the worship demanded of them, despite the increase fire temperature, and they knew that arguing the matter would do no good (Daniel 3:16), they persisted in their decision. To them, casting them into the furnace; the terror of it has no effect on their minds to induce them to alter the resolution they had taken. Their faith was in the fact that they serve a God who is able to deliver them. Should He not deliver them, they were equally determined and satisfied that in one way or another, He will deliver them out of the fire. That was a resolute faith

There are two reasons for their resolutions: first was on the power and providence of God, and secondly, their cause, which was God’s glory, and the testifying of the true religion. And so they make open confession that they will not so much as outwardly consent to idolatry.

Here is a challenge for us, the present day Christians who delight to fight enemies. When confronted with issues that will not glorify God in our offices, villages, towns and wherever we may find ourselves, what will you do? Do you resist even to the point of shading your blood? These young Hebrews men were resolute and God honoured them. Honour God by standing up for Him and obviously, He will honour you too

Topic: Request Sinners Often Make

Text: Exodus 8:25 – 32

Unbelievers use these words often and again, “Pray for me.” Most times, they say it casually but it shows two basic truths. First and foremost, it shows that they know that the life they are living is not according to the will of God and needed mercy. Again, it shows that they have acknowledged that you are a child of God who can intercede on their behalf. King Jeroboam’s hand withered when he ordered the arrest of a man of God. Thereafter he said, “Please entreat the favour of the Lord your God and pray for me that my hand maybe restored to me” – 1 Kings 13:6b. The man of God did as requested and his hand was restored (1 Kings 13:6c).

Pharaoh hardened his heart by refusing to allow the Israelites to go and God dealt with him and his people. When he saw the outstretched arm of God, he asked Moses to intercede for him. This was similar to the case of Simon Magus, who, like Pharaoh, fearing the divine Judgement, begged for Peter’s prayers (Acts 8:24). Why will people deliberately sin and thereafter ask for prayers? If they actually know that what they are doing is evil, why do it? Can you give some reasons why people act that way?

Do you deliberately commit fornication, steal tell lies, etc., and thereafter you begin to ask for prayers or begin to pray? Repent now because the judgement of God is at hand. Don’t think that the grace of God is eternity. Remember how Pharaoh eventually died with his men inside the Red Sea. Therefore be warned.

Food for Thought: The knowledge of Divine Judgement coming upon all unrighteousness should make us live in awe of God.
